I've only been playing a week, but I noticed that if I jump around from system to system, eventually, I will see a pile of loot hanging around.

So noramlly, I just scan to see if the owner is anywhere nearby, vac****it all up and then sell it. I've made millions of ISK doing this in a very short amount of time. Now that I've got a better ship, I'm stealing cargo right under people's noses like while they're finishing up the last two pirates. Since my ship is fast and I have warp stabilizers, I can almost always get away with most of the loot.

Here's my question: I noticed there is a 15 minute agression timer on the screen if I can avoid the person I stole the cargo from for 15 minutes, are there any future negative consequences of continuing to steal cargo? I figure i will get to a certain point where 1M ISK per hour is no longer a good deal for me, but so far I'm so totally filthy rich!

Any negative medium or long-term consequences for this play style (other than the 15 minutes)? Thanx,

-Drake Mott.

well, at the higher end of the scale 1mil/hour is kinda crappy but if you're making a living from it so far and you have fun doing it, sure why not. There's no permanent penalty but remember you flash red to his whole corp.

Just today in a nearby system there was a mining OP going on, 3 retrievers and a hauler, all in noobie corp so I got my battle badger and cleaned out a bit, they attacked me but ran off when they couldn't kill me (although I was on fire once heh). If people can't handle being in a real corp trying to misuse the non wardec mechanic I can use the non corp flag mechanic where they can't fire on me but the one I nicked the ore from.

1mil/hour for a newb is a fortune, well done :)

perfectly legal.

i personally think, most ppl dont care about the loot from NPCs in missions. exspecially on L3 and 4 missions it takes too much time to check all the cans and pick up the good pieces. they make their money with mission rewards and agent offers - so they want to do as many missions as possible and dont waste time with the loot.
you might upset some ppl when you nick their faction spawn can, but hey - who said you must be mr. niceguy? Cool

creative way to make money - i like it.

Apart from the occasional random guy who will try to pop you there is very little risk to this as a way to get your start in eve.
You will have to venture into lowsec or 0.0 to get the best stuff, although hanging around a busy mission runner system will no doubt produce a few rare finds.

Of course, do it long enough and you'll risk becoming known as the Ginger Magician of scavenging...

Scavenging is being turned into a proper profession in Kali. Destroyed ships will leave hulls behind that you can collect so i understand.

For the new salvaging mini-profession, you'll need salvaging skills to be released in Kali (which have a pre-requisite of Mechanic 5) and a salvaging module.

The wrecks will give up rig components which can be used to make rigs.

Rigs are like implants for ships (can't be transferred, will be destroyed when removed, etc) and give minor boosts to ship performance.

if you do this long enough and to the same people they may make you Kill on site and they may also put bounties on you which could be bad as it would cause other people to hunt you down and kill you. There are some policeing for thing like this in eve..not much though.

putting a bounty on his head would require him to get below -1 sec status. unlikey when he doesnt agress people.
same goes for 'Kill on Sight'. Only suiciding works and he seems to be usedto evasion tactics (WCS etc.).

in 0.0 hes free game anyway - so no big deal.

Risk vs. Reward - EvE at its finest.

Just be carefull because stealing from the can flags you agaist the whole corp, not just that single player.

But all in all probably quite a good way to make cash as a newbie Smile

in 0.0 he is mostly dead before he reaches the first can, unless he is green/blue or purple. In wich cases he may loot the cans as well ;)

There's money to be made in every aspect of EVE, you just have to see the opportunities as they come along.

A corp mate of mine used to make a ton of money from scooping up the cans left by lasy NPCing guys. As long as they are not around when you are scooping up the loot there is little danger. Even if they are you can generally get out before they fire on you, but most peopel wont bother. They are hardly likely to care if you are robbing the rubbish they left behind.. especially if they never bothered checking the cans in the first place.

Hell I've scavanged on occasion and I've never been blown up once.

Alas, if only tractor beams worked on other people's cans.

The only long-term danger I can think of is your reputation. EVE is such a big game that it's fairly easy to lose that and start over in a new part of space, though.
