I don't understand why people think the Raven is a bad PvP ship? I have never flown one, but is it because everyone is biased towards shield tanking?

Would like to hear peoples opinions...

Seriously though, it's awesome in small gangs.

The Raven is only a poor preformer in 200km+ fleet combat thats all..
But in small close range gangs, its a nasty bit of kit.

Raven's an awesome pvp ship for smallish and mid-sized gangs imho, it just isn't that great for long-range fleet fights because of the late damage.

I have no idea why people would say this. The Raven in its PVE setup is pretty damn good working directly in PvP as well. It's med slot layout allows a pretty decent tank and some additional PvP modules that allow it to either do more damage or provide additional tackling.

If you fit a Sensor booster and have moderate (approx 750k) missile skills you can sling cruise missiles out to around 120km. Damage is interchangeable between damage types and the cap it has is used purely to run its tank not split between tank and weapons.

Additionally it can be fitted with damage mods and it's tank doesnt reduce the number of fittings for these (no split between low slots). You can maximise it's damage potential along with a pretty powerful tank at the same time. Something you just cant do with other ships.

Cap booster charges and the two extra high slots for heavy nos make it pretty lethal in either long range or close up areas of operation. The nos' can screw up smaller ships and if you're carrying light drones, is an absolute nightmare to tackle with small ships safely.

The only way to defeat it is to jam it (then it switches to FoF's) Nos it completely so it loses it's tank (same for all other ships).... and that's about it.

Jenny Spitfire, who happens to be in Kybane's corp, is known for well though out statements such as "raven sucks" and "caldari ships suck".

The rest of the story is quite straigthforward, I believe. Confused

The main problem with the raven in PvP is lack of mobility. It can't spare the slot for a MWD on a shield-tanked setup if it wants to fit a scrambler, and EW setups aren't as effective as they once were due to ECCM being more effective.

That said, if you don't have to worry about approaching anything because you've got instas and people to help tackle if your target is more than 20km away, the raven is quite good. The raven may not be the best solo PvP ship out there, but as part of a small gang it's excellent.

Raven + T2 painter + T2 rage torps = biggest dmg u can imagien and will rip any tank what so ever.

Raven + T2 perciosn cruiser = Best ani support for frigs cruisers etc .

Raven is close rane gangs is nice or to act as anti support in large fleets but u can forget about shootign primaries over 200 km sicne they die b4 ur missiles even hit.

Raven has "eau de suck" in certain situations.

Problem is some people see the torps / cruises huge range, and try to utilise it in pvp and wonder why the Raven "sucks".

The answer is that really, they're looking at it wrong - when you are looking at a Raven in a pvp context what you are really looking at is a blaster-boat.

In a nutshell to try and use a Raven at range you have to a) tank the instantaneous incoming fire of turret ships whilst your missiles are enjoying a leisurely stroll across to your target, and b) hope against hope that your intended victim has the good grace to stay put once the incoming finally does begin to arrive.

However all is not lost - just because the Raven is a one-trick pony when it comes to level 4 missions / 'plexes / 0.0 ratting does not mean you have to stick to that rig for pvp.

I remember back in the day having dual-mwd Gankavens with no tank whatsoever which I used to have hilarious fun with.
Obviously the dual-mwd rig as we know it today is a thing of the past [sic] but use your imagination, you can fit stuff other than hardners and boosters in those mid slots, and you can fit stuff other than PDU II's in the lows.

Just because a setup is off-the-wall doesn't mean you'll lose with it (unless you are a complete tool ofc) - in fact surprise can often be a key element to victory in pvp because your opponent has to realise what's going on before he can adapt and counter, whereas if you come bowling in with a pie 'n' chips Raven setup everyone's gonna know exactly what to expect.

Go play!

Because its too powerful and needs to be nerfed. It can warp scramble at 125km, can damage frigates, and burn eden uses them.

Because it used to be uber, then got nerfed to something more reasonable.

In large fleet ops (which makes up far too much of the PvP in Eve these days), it's useless, because the missiles will never hit before the target has already popped.

1v1 against another BS, it can be nasty if it can choose the range of engagement.

In 1v1 against a smaller ship, it should either win or come to a stalemate (t2 cruisers/BC are possible exceptions).

In small gangs, where 'cepters can eliminate smaller opponents, it may well be unstoppable.

So the Raven is useless in some situations, great in others. Just like it should be.

Raven is pretty good in long range fleet as long as you have t2 torps and shoot at secondary :P

And whoever said it can warp scramble with torps isnt really lying, i was messing around with a corp mate, stringing his t1 torps behind my taranis when i thought i'd be cool and slow down so one could hit me. Well once the first hit, it sent my ship all outta whack and i went from 1200 m/s to 800 and pretty soon the torps just pounded me to a halt. I've never seen them do that, usually they just glance off for 4 dmg or so. About that time I think i covered my eyes to shield them from the result of my stupidity - a lonely pod floating next to a can that was once a taranis.

The real kick in the face was my buddy just brought it up for me from empire like 20 minutes before this happened lol.

ravens are great all around if u know how to fly them and have the right skills. A raven with cap boosters a faction amp booster and faction invuls can easily solo most battleships with jav torps involved. They are great for fleets and can serve multiple roles.

There is nothing wrong with a RAven in PvP.

The range is only an issue with toprs, cos cruise travellnig at 5km/s or whatever the hell it is dont take long to cover range.

It has the best gnak/tank ratio of any ship in the game.......

The list goes on, but before every Caldari pilot screams about its flwas i'll beat them to it.

Its not overly versatile, its damage is good but not great, it cant use Rage torps without someone to paint for it ( thank **** ), and its damn hard to setup for solo pvp cos even just a scrambler hurts its tank, and its so slow it really needs a web too and then its basically screwed.

But for sheer, omfg that things tuff and hurts like hell, it cant be beat.

Whats funny abt ravens: if you engage NPCing torp raven in lets say ishtar and have bad luck (user has t2 sieges + javelins) if you dont warp out fast enough you will pop :)

Those things just rip apart cruisers :/
