I use a Brutix and Dominix to do Lvl 3 missions, and load these drone boats with a mixture of Heavy, Medium and Light combat drones.

I noticed there are three other drone types I have never tried: Combat Fighter drones, Sentry drones, and Combat Utility drones.

Are any of these three drone types useful in Lvl 3 missions?

Thanks.

Fighters are only for use with Carriers.

Combat Utility drones are Energy Neuts and webber drones. Only really useful for PvP. Webber drones are useful for missions, but I really doubt anyone uses neut drones.

Senries can be useful in some missions. They are basically mini-sentry guns. Drop them and let them kill the enemies.

I'd say stick with T2 drones. Lights for frigs, Meds fro cruisers, and Heavy for BSs.

Thanks....
By the way, I noticed that Hammerhead II's are so much more expensive than any of the other T2 medium drones. Are they really that much better than Vespas, Infiltrators, and Valkyries?

Thanks.

Hammerheads do thermal damage, and do more damage than the other medium drones (at the expensse of being a bit slower).

Obviously for PVE you'd use the drones that did the damage type that the NPC's you are fighting are weak against. For example, use Vespas against Guristas, Hammerheads vs Serpentis, Valkyries versus Angels and Infiltrators versus Sanshas (also Blood Raiders and Rogue drones, I think).

No, they aren't. They have a higher damage multiplier than the other drones, but not that much higher. Use Valkyrie IIs until the Hammerhead II buyers get a clue and stop supporting these insane prices.

No, but they have the highest DPS in QuickFit. ;)

That, and most other race's ships don't have a big enough drone bay to field several different types of drones, so the Hammerhead's higher damage mod and general utility of Thermal damage in makes them popular for all races in PvP, and since Ogre II's follow the same line of thought, it's only one T2 spec you have to train up, instead of 4, and then that reinforces the effectiveness of Hammerhead II's, since you've got more spec bonus with Gallente drones...

For mission running, I suggest you train for and buy a set of all four T2 lights/mediums, and then fit your drone bay for the mission at hand.

Sentry drones are VERY useful. Not only do they force you to train Drone Interfacing up to IV, they pack quite a punch at range, and they do instant (ok, near instant, there's a 4 second delay for the first shot) damage. Try sending out a flight of Heavy drones 30-80km, see how long it takes them to get to the target and start doing damage. Best use of sentry drones is to come to a full stop, deploy them, snipe, and then insta scoop them if they get agro or the targets get too close.

But you can't rely on sentries alone, because stuff WILL get inside their range/tracking, or you'll start the mission at close range, and that's when you need good old reliable mobile drones. They're a great tool in the drone toolbox though.

The reason hammerheads are so popular is because in a large percentage of missions their increase damage multiplier more tham makes up for using a damage type other than the enemies major weak resist. Especially considering thermal is generally a very weak resist for all npc's.

Hobgoblins/Hammerheads/Ogre's are the universal drones. Can use them anytime/anywhere and more often than not you'll get the best result possible.
