How about a low cost "addon" that is placed into BOTH high slots of an industrial ship. It picks up the ores that are mined and refines them.

Requires race specific industrial lvl 5, mining barge lvl 5, refining lvl 5, refinery efficiency lvl 5, ore specific refining lvl 1, mobile refining lvl 1

Rumor has it that a module was intended to be in game a while back. It might explain the mobile refine skill and the cpu specs of the badger m2.

Once more, (multiple threads on this..), this is clearly a capital-class ability and belongs on a mining-assistant capital ship.

I thought the High CPU on the Industrial ships was for EW???

I've warped out of many tight spots/camps by simply by jamming the frig that is scrambling me.

I think you shouldn't have to rely on a capital ship. Make this one have meager returns (30%?) and the cap ship have like, 50% returns and add skills so that, at max, this thing gives 50% return and the cap ship 75%?

You can't set it that high. Check what the POS refinerys do.. 30% is appropriate for a capital ship with the capacity. With skills per POS also.

And no, I'm sure you don't want to "have to" rely on a capital, but the sort of power you're getting is only appropriate for one, afaik.

pos refinery is 75% with the intensive.

A cap ship + skills (and there is a mobile refinery skill, so maybe that affects the mobile refinery for pos? I dunno bout that though) should be almost equal to it

Just give the industrial (or even make it a T2 industrial or a T3 industrial mod) say, 50% max efficiency at maxed out skills. Ref Eff, Mobile Ref Eff, and ore named proc lvl 5 all the way.

MAJOR skills needed for that

Yes, with the intensive, which no mobile ship should ever approach. A capital should be comparable to the basic.

It's not a matter of skills alone, it's a matter of infrastructure, investment, demand and so on.

yeah, but if it only gives 30%, it's not likely to be used. That's very low return on the price and skill need of a cap ship.

Better off using a carrier to do it to be honest and just offloading at your pos and using an intensive.

You forget that this is not a PVP skill so it will have a very low return for a lot of time spent training. Similar to every other industrial type skill. We can't have players actually making a living from the industrial side can we? Rolling Eyes

It's not supposed to be a fast return on your ISK. It's supposed to allow mining ops where they were previously unviable due to distance from station. If you want a better return, use a normal carrier to haul in a POS. If you don't want to risk that...you're stuck with the capital.

What about when you're mining stuff not near your pos and you don't have access to a carrier? Nobody in my corp could use a cap ship yet. The idea of this module is to let us still get some return on our time investment. You ever try hauling a few hundred thousand units of hedbergite? It's some frackin HUGE stuff!

It refines down to about 1/1000th it's size

If you are going to have a ship refining ore in space, then you might as well have a speacial ship to do the job as you do in mining barges. This ship could sit within 1500metres of the barges os at a safe spot and refine the ore as you mine. Leaving your hauliers to haul the mins. back to your station.

The same could be done for ice to fuel a POS in another system.

Then buy another POS. Seriously...it's not supposed to be easy to do deep space mining ops. Just profitable.

so the only way to make money thru industry is thru copiously huge amounts of time or money?

While Pirating / PVP'ing is almost instant gratification?

Sorry, that doesn't sit well with me and, apparently, many others.

ROI. Return on investment.
That is what you get, steadily, from industrial ventures like mining.

PvP is an ISK sink.
Ransoming can be good ISK, but is unpredictable.

If you want instant "hits" of ISK, the best methods are actually trade and scams.

A very good way to make money on industry is producing things where they are needed and unavailable.
Its like trade, only You do not haul things in place, only BPCs :)

No, you're looking for a way to open up previously unviable space for mining. That's fine, and a worthy goal. But, and this is a big but, you're asking to do it very cheaply. I disagree - a POS or a capital should be the minimum level of investment.

I'm asking to:

Do it cheaply at low efficiency
Do it very expensively at high efficieny.

I've run the math mate... it's not quite as ludicrious as you'd think.

You're asking for a few mil to do it the same as the basic POS refinerys which cost a lot for the POS.

PLUS, doing it mobile is a VAST advantage and it MUST be priced that way.

Hence, capital only.

Please note that there some areas of empire space that is unviable to mine due to the fact that you have to jump 2 or 3 time to get to a station and there sec rating is to high to put a POS in, therefore while I agree that it can not be too cheap I think that a ship costing around 500 mil. (Like the Exhumers prices atm) would be reasonable. But it would have a poor refine rate say 20% less than the small refiner used by a POS, but there could be a high level skill that could bring that up to say 50%. This skill could an x8 same as the battleship skill therefore take a long time to train. This would help people wishing to open up these areas, while making aiming it more at the committed industrial corps and not the quick buck merchants wanting to make easy ISK.

Oh no, in some towns people have to starve because there is no pizza delivery and they wuld need to go to the other side of the street to a restaurant.

Covetor mines 1000 meters per minute.
It takes 4 minutes to make a 2-3 jump trip and dock, 8 minutes to get back.
Iteron without expensive expanders holds 17k cargo.
So, it can do 2 rounds untill full, so one hauler per 2 miners here, You use 1/3 personal resources, thats like 66% refining :)
Who wuld want to mine in a not perfectly comfortable 0.8 anyway?
