On or about 21-Jun-2006, several members of Evolution shot down a number of neutral ships in secure space. They managed to destroy several ships due to CONCORD not enforcing the peace as it ought to.

This is, as CCP announced, a bug. Our pilots who have participated in the usage of the bug have been reprimanded and penalized by CCP.

Evolution's views on this matter, however, are the intent of this announcement. Those views are that what some of our members did was a mistake. Not only is it wrong because CCP said so, but moreso because actions like this are not what Evolution is about.

When we started the EVE adventure years ago, one of our goals was to always and only target whoever was at the top. We wanted, still want, and still work towards being the best. This was the major difference between Evolution and many of the combat coporations that regularly attacked noncombatants. In time things became more complicated, and we had to adjust our methods such that neutrals sometimes do get attacked, but we always saw to it to warn everyone beforehand. These warnings take the form of my posts, which are often viewed only as threats and flamed to eventual locking. However, if people will remember, a common theme of those posts is that those who do not want to be involved should just simply stay away.

We believe that everyone participating in 0.0 combat, operations and politics know the risks that that carries. These are risks to property and safety, and thereby by going into 0.0 or participating adjacent to it, those people accept those risks and are thus considered combatants. They are the ones we fight without regret.

We also believe that those who stay in secure space close to 1.0 are functioning in a different world outside of the one we operate in. They mostly want to be left in peace. This is especially true of newer ship owners who are just learning the ropes in the beginning of their own journey. In the early days, the idea of protecting these newer travellers is what set us up against the other combat corporations that preyed on them.

We do not want to force people that don't want to fight us to fight us. We only go after those that stake competing claims to our claims, and thus willingly accept the fact that we will challenge them.

We are not happy about what happened and we apologize for what some of us have done.

In order to make this apology appear as genuine as it is, over the next few days, we are going to contact each individual that we have wronged on this matter and attempt to compensate them for their losses by giving them a Heavy Assault Cruiser completely free and without any strings attached. This hurts our funding as these ships are not cheap by any means. However, we want to make it clear, that especially as far as the matter of new players are concerned, Evolution does not want to cause them grief. We want them to enjoy the same world that we have enjoyed for several years now. Perhaps in time, when they are ready, they will leave the safety of 1.0 and venture outward. When that time comes, we will welcome them as combatants, allied or opposed depending on the changing currents of the sea of destiny.

We hope in the end, that just as we are known for being relentless and ruthless to our enemies, our endless journey to be at the top will not be marred by the blood of innocents.

GG Molle.

To Ulric, how can anyone complain about being ransomed ?? Having one's ship blown up is infinitely more of a hassle than having to fork over a reasonable amount of ISK after you've already lost the engagement..

Crew complement on a Machariel is what, 4000 souls ? Think about them before your pride next time Smile

A responsible man accepts the consequences of his actions. A responsible leader accepts the consequences of the actions of those he leads.

Through this act, SirMolle, you show yourself to be an honourable and responsible leader, for which respect is due, and is duely given.

Though it has been a long time since our corps fought on the same side of an engagement, I have never lost respect for EVOL. This just confirms that respect.
