I just bought several copies of EVE at a local overstock reseller, thinking that the CD-keys would work like timecodes, but apparently they're different. Is there any way to use them to extend my trial account, or does CCP think it's fun for me to have to make a new account every month?

Hi.

This thread is bit old, but has the info on the matter which I consider accurate up-to-date.

No it is not funny to bounce from one CD-key-account to another, but that is the only way "to extend account" with those CD-keys.

Personally I think those CD-keys are remnants from time when EVE was first published and marketed - but yes, you might get those CD-keys from bargain boxes/sales much cheaper than time-codes.

If any change, I would look into game time cards and/or credit-card payment method... much simpler. There are too-large number of threads to refer to, but I would use eve-search.com (since apparently the EVE's google search sorts old threads to high on list... comments?)

That reply is not entirely accurate.

The CD keys are indeed a remnant of when EVE was published as a boxed game, which hasn't been for 2+ years now. The CD key can be used to convert a trial to full account. You need to create a new account using the key then petition for a character transfer. In this special case the normal $20 fee is waived.

You cannot use multiple CD keys as equivalent to timecodes, once you have a paying account you need to use CC/PayByCash/GTC to continue paying.
