You cannot have them search for anything other than ships. This is a bit poor.
Tonight, myself and 2 of my corp mates decided to find some secure cans that were at a safe safespot in one of our corporations systems.
This took us a significant amount of time, however, we have just arrived at the cans, and scanned the contents.
The person that placed these cans made a safe between planets, and then another safe between planets, and placed the cans at a safespot between the first two safespots - i.e. not even close to being between two celestial objects.
And since it took us bleeding hours to find out what was in the cans, I'm not about to reveal the contents so quickly. If people are interested, I'll post what was in them later.
However, can secure cans, asteroids, etc etc etc all be added to scan probes please? |

It certainly would make finding them easier, but would it make the game better? Or perhaps it just good that people can have their anchored secure cans reasonably secure, and devs place some 'hidden' belts around. Although adding option for (fighter) drones might make sense. Wonder if I should market my SafeSpotBuster for finding those unprobeable things in 1-3 hours. The theory being: - If you can scan the object, you'll have the distance - If you get distances, you'll have the coordinates - Once you get the coordinates, you'll have the route (warp 12.12AUs towards planet IV, then 0.25AU towards the sun). -Lasse |

Step 3 is not particularly straightforward, though. |

yeah adding fighters would be very sensible. Fighters warping 1mil km away = 2days in nano gistii crusader :P |

Cans should be added to the list of scannable objects. |

how about fix the scan probes so they scan in a true 3d environment first...then you can add all the can/roid finding options you want. |

The ship scanner (and I can only subsequently guess probe scanning), was supposed to have been completely revamped for kali. Unfortunately, since the dev post saying as much I haven't heard anything more on the subject. Would be keen to know if that revamp is still on the table, and if it is, what it would entail. |

Uhhh... they do already. You have to form a planar triangle around what you're looking for, that plane is only an AU thick, but the three probes that form that plane can be placed anywhere in a 3d environment. If you are talking about tirangulation, then you would have to be able to drop a 4th probe and incorporate it into group that would analyze the scan. |
