get 5 POS up and running in the system and have more than any other alliances...
Huh, always wondered that myself.
Yeah, except it's rubbish.
You get sovereignty ONLY when:
1. you are in a corp that is in an alliance,
2. you set up and online at least one pos in the system in question, and set it to soveriegnty claiming mode,
3. there are no other alliances with pos in that system, OR
if there are, that alliance has fewer active pos then you do of the same size and none of a size bigger then your pos is (large wins over medium wins over small, regardless of how many smaller versus how many larger
, you have an online pos of a bigger size then the other alliance (numbers of pos's don't matter in this situation)OR
all other alliance-owned pos's in the system in question that are in excess of the pos count your alliance has there have been put into reinforced mode or have been destroyed or have been inactivated by other means (spying/sabotage)
Sovereignty over a system changed automatically at the daily downtime, but focing a change to the sovereignty (i.e., taking someone elses sovereignty from them) by the use of onlining more POS's then they have in system takes 5 days. Taking over sovereignty through the use of force has no 5-day waiting period.
Whoever has the 'right' to sovereignty at the end
of downtime either on any day (in case of force used) or at the end of a 5-day period (which starts again if you lose the leading position in a system somewhere during those 5 days afaik) will have the sovereignty after that downtime untill the end of the next downtime when sovereignty is established anew using the same calculation.
