I signed up yesterday for a trial account to WoW. (Don't worry fellow EvE fans, I am only doing so as my two WoW buddies are hopefully trying EvE in return).

Anyway, it appears their entire eurpoean login server has gone down and/or they've released a patch that means no client can connect. As far as I can tell Blizzard have not acknowledged it yet. Classy.

Compare that to Oveur and TomB's posts at 3am on some days, where they've been manually load balancing servers and watching processors. AND posting on the forums to keep us informed.

Edit: I can't even post on the WoW forums as I only have a trial account, so I cant even contribute to the discussion over there.

I hear they are banning people for posting about the lag also.

Edit: Forbidden names.

a half decent game (for what it is) run by ignorant fools.

But having said that, lets turn down the smugness to 5 or so lads...we know EVE is better, but to go "nyaa nyaa" in their faces, well...it's a little childish. ;)

Lets remember when EVE used to have random nodes drops. Yes way back when castor was out(never was on before that).

On April 12th one of our hosting sites experienced an emergency shutdown caused by an unforeseen strike at a power company. As a consequence the realms affected were offline for several hours while our on-site technicians worked to bring them back online in the best possible condition. Due to this unexpected downtime, we will give one day of game time to players who had an active character on the affected realms, when the issue occurred. The game time will be credited within the next two weeks. A full list of the realms concerned can be found, here.

If you play eve and enjoy it...WoW is just a waste of time. I wouldn't even bother with the trial.

There's nothing decent about WoW.

Everything the game orginally was going to stand for has been dead since before it went retail, and the game is pretty much spear-headed by some of EQ1's most hardcore powergaming grinders, who are going to do a really good job of losing Blizzard money.

WoW is nothing more than EQ1 in a different setting, using Diablo 2's ******ed eq system of "Oh cool, after a week of spamming diablo and bhaal for 10hrs a day I got a ring slightly better than my other one, time to grind more, lollolololololroflezlolol".Rolling Eyes

at least with eve's mission grinding, you get better standings with the corp you're workin for, not to mention the faction.

This of course leads up to jump clone use in their stations to become more "mobile" and/or not have that much in loss in PvP in terms of hefty implants :P

So "My Gay Panda" would be fine for a ship name in Eve, but calling your pet Panda that in WoW could get you banned?

I think they are having more problems than a few nodes going down. All my traceroutes stop in the same few nodes that other people are stating. Which is having the effect that I cant even login correctly. Got some patch last night, but not beyond that.

It's nice that CCP have been tolerant of this topic. From what I've seen, Blizzard aren't so reciprocal of the same sort of discussion on their forums.

One of the hilights of playing WoW was petitioning people's names when they irritated you, in strict accordance with the old ToS which had some spectacularly restrictive rules.

One of my guildmates had an entire guild renamed becasue they were ****heads (it disbanded because of it. HAHA.) along with so many individual players he prompted Blizz to change their policy on player names. Good times. FYI: He playes Eve now too, I think he's a miner or something.

And WoW is a good game. I honetly don't see why people feel the need to only like one mmo, and go around telling everybody how awful the others are, how they're only played by l33t 13 year old idiots, and that they're a spectacular faliure of a business run by idiots.

You realise the WoW forums, between threads about chuck bloody noris, has similarly viterolic pap about eve. Grow up, move on and enjoy the fact that you've got a choice.

although tbh, even the EU WoW servers mock the US WoW servers for being a big pile of crap populated by inbred mongs, so i guess that's alright.

Heh mongs.

I'm not knocking WoW, I do still want to have a go on the trial and see what all the fuss is about. Just that the rules in place within WoW (and the events that have reached the media), make WoW come across as far more restrictive than EVE.

To my mind, WoW is a really good co-operative RPG, rather than a full blown MMO.

You're playing in a world blizzard created, which is a fundamentally different concept to Eve which provides us with a set of rules, a bit of background fuff, and leaves us to it.
