Right now I'm using a Ferox to do level three missions. It's pretty cool, but I have enough standing to be doing level four missions right now, but I can't fly battleships yet and I have stuff that is more important to train before I get there. Now, the question is, what do I train? Right now I have a crush on the Tempest, so am hoping to get mad leet in Matari ships. The only problem is, I can't hop right into one since I have like 25k points in Gunnery, and the Tempest doesn't approve of such low skills.

At first, I was figuring I could train up to tech 2 cruise missiles and use a Raven. It's a good ship, and I can use it to PvP with some confidence if I have decent missile skills. Then I got to thinking that maybe it would be good to go with a battleship that uses guns, so I can skip the T2 cruise missiles and just use T1 guns while training up a bunch of gun skills. Would the Apoc then be the way to go, since I hear that Amarr ships are very forgiving of low skills? Or could I do the same thing in a Megathron? Or should I go with the original plan and use the Raven while I train up gunnery?

Ugh. I'm so confused. Crying or Very sad

The megathron is not a low sp friendly ship unless its a miner.

The Scorpion is not a very friendly PvE ship despite what people may say... its teh sux.

The Raven is one of, if not the best, PvE ship in EVE for mediocre skill investment.

Amarrian in General are nub friendly but but it only takes a nub to die in one fast. Keep it away from angels, stick to sansha and bloods imho.

Typhoon is sexy pvp at low SP if you are smart enough to use it.

Typhoon is crapola in its role because the Tempest does so much better.

Tempest is a good jack of all trades BS, but Torp Raven is better, imho, at close range and Rail Megathron is better sniper in most cases unless in multi-tempest fleet. I wouldn't touch it without BS 4, Large Proj 4 and 4/5 in all RoF/damage/tracking gunnery skills.

Dominix... is just sick how versatile it is.

Right now it is smart to train drones and missiles over gunnery. If you use a heavy missile ferox for lvl 4 the next best ship to get is the Raven. Don't bother with a Scorpion unless you have a itch for eWar and PvP.

what he said...
And a dominix requires very little sp to be ridiculously effective...
You'd want to stick with caldari for now though, they are really nice right now.
The raven will serve you as a solid PvE (and if needed later) PvP ship. It has done so for a long time.

I'd say keep your char caldari, and if you really want to explore other possibilities without sucking at everything and being good at nothing, concider getting yourself an alt :)

Raven can do anything any other BS can do at close range, and with more EW capacity than most.

Min ships demand proficiency in drones, turrets and missiles, though they will also most utilize your existing missile skills.

Gallente and Amarr both demand ability in both drones and turrets.

I suggest you train up turret skills just for your Feroxes ability. For long range, your optimal range boost is actually a damage boost because you can use more damaging amunition.

Who knows, by the time you get your general skills up, Kali may have brought you a railboat.

So, Raven + Missiles + THEN work on gunnery skills, and see where that takes me?

The Raven is an awesome-looking ship, and I certainly wouldn't complain about flying it. Though this is all making the temptation to get a second account really, really big...

Let's just put it this way. All races have their strengths and weaknesses. It would be smart to stick with caldari because you already have started training missile skills.

Minmatar: Have very good ships if you use them correctly. The typhoon makes a good version of the domi with more highs. The tempest is so versatile it requires craploads of skill but once you have those skills you are officially uber(and even beat the domi in a temp!)Wink
-------------------------------------------------------
Ammar: I'll admit I don't know much about the race except that the armageddon can gank and tank like heck. An ammar version of the rave if you will, but with a better gank.Smile
The apoc is doesn't seem any different than the geddon besides more turret hardpoints and less tanking capability. To me it seems a shame to have so many turret points but low skills.
-----------------------------------------------------
Gallente: They have the very nice looking megathron and the versatile domi. A lot of people use the domi in pvp because it can nos, tank, gank, and jam. The mega I don't know much about but it can't be as skill intensive as the tempest. Same slots as an apoc and has the ability to fit missiles. A lot of people fit blasters with a mad gank and sap they get 1000 dps not taking into account resistances.
---------------------------------------------------
Caldari: This race has the king of Pve, the raven. Tanks and ganks like crazy from what I hear. Most peope fit it out with siege launchers. this race doesn't require a lot of skills to pve or even pvp(because t2 weapons take less skills). The scorp is key in a fleet battle for it's ability to jam. Also good for solo pvp Imo. Ihave heard that it has problems breaking the tanks of the bigger Bs spawns.

There is my 2 cents on the topic but I'm just going on what i've heard so don't qoute me.

I think you have the Apoc and Geddon reversed in part. The Apoc is the tank, while the geddon has the damage role.

If you can fly Ferox well, then the choice is simple: RAVEN.

But if you care to dare, then try Amarr:

Amarr is a great PVE /PVP ship: No Ammo, great tankers and very versatile. Just need to use your head to fit them and dont be afraid to try different setups.

And to the above poster, the Armageddon can tank VERY WELL against anything including Angels and Ravens Very Happy

You will find eventually you will want to fly another races ships. I swore to only fly minmtar, but due to where I live, I trained for caldari bs in order to rat easier and make more cash.

Now I really love caldari and ew... so yeah...

Really depends on what you want to do. I have ever race apart from gallente... which I don't plan on training for.

What I have found is:

Amarr
Pros: Awesome tank, nice firepower, easy to fit, no ammo
Cons: boring race to play... nothing outside lasers, no ecm etc

Matari:
Pros: Hybrid ships which fit duel roles. I'd say this is a good race for beginners as it gives you the best of all races IMO.
Cons: Don't like 1400's apart from t2, no really effect bs. Alot of skill points have to be invested in mitari (shield tank, armor tank, em, missiles, gunnery etc)

Caldari:
Pros: missiles... :D Good shield tanking, nice battleships, crusiers and frigs. Very easy race to get into
Cons: Slow ships... that's all I can really say...

That sums up my experience so far.

You mentioned missions, the raven (and other missileboats) are tremendously powerful in missions due to missile mechanics. With turrets, you're never at optimal range with everything once you get into big fights on missions a raven basically discards that. Even the domi and some of the other races more versatile BSes stumble where the raven doesn't even feel a speed bump on missions. Likewise the raven (and the scorp if you train up the EW skills) are brutal in PVP minus gate sniping.
