I'm new (a few weeks with the game). I have both a Punisher and a Rifter. I like the Rifter more than the Punisher.

I'm looking at the Cruisers and bigger ships, and it looks like the Amarr have better ones. Am I wrong?

I need to decide which one to pursue. What are the real differences between the two? Minmatar are faster, use projectiles and missiles ... Amarr have more armor and use lasers.

I like the speed on the Rifter for doing level 1 missions. I tried a few level two missions and neither of the two faired very well. What I'm concerned with is that beyond the Frigate level, Amarr will be the better choice and I don't want to pick based solel on the limmited ships I've tries so far.

Can anyone help?

Go Amarr, many reasons but only 1 needed:

1. One day you will want to fly an Apoc!

Don't go Amarr, they might be better in many regards, but one day you will kick yourself in the head and say "Damn, I wish I wasn't like every other guy in the galaxy"

They are very different. You can't really say that one is better than the others. Maller would be "low skill friendly" for pve (lot of cap, armor and powergrid), but stabber is a fun ship and rupture a solid choice as it can be fitted in many ways and perform well in many roles.

Minmatar ships are usually flexible and versatile, amarr ships are simple and strong. They are two extremes.

If you like the rifter, you will probably like the stabber and rupture. It's not such a big deal if you realize that you didn't chose the right race, as it doesn't take so much longer to train for another racial cruiser to level 3.

Amar have the best PvP resists in the game because their racial resist fill the whole in their armor resists.

Minm have nice resists if they shield tank but half the Minm ships are built to armor tank and even the shield tankers ussually have too few mid slots.

I say PvP resists because unlike PvE you never know what damage type you will face so is best to be prepared for all.

Each racial armor resist stops 2.5% of incoming damage (with 25% of each damage type). I don't think that would be a good reason to chose amarr ships, anyway, it's not like it's the only factor that matters when chosing ships.

lol in pvp i fear minmitar ships and treat amarr ships like prey, mostly because minmatar have a lot of good nos setups and they have the ability to exploit and resistance holes i may have.

Think outside the box, I suggest you train for the AutoPunisher then go on to AutoMallers and finally train up for the Megapulse Gankascorp, for extra WTF bonus points.

Amarr are harder to start with, slower ships, less reliant on missiles so you need to know more about tracking, armor tanking is a little riskier than shield tanking but also a lot more efficient when done right, lasers require no ammo.

Basically for me, it comes down to Coolness factor.

If I wasn't playing a Minmatar my second choice of race would be Amarr, that race is cool as hell, and its fun to yell "DEATH TO ALL WHO OPPOSE THE EMPIRE!" as you charge into battle.

Amarr. We at least finish building our ships before sending them off into space.

Both Min and Amarr have good cruisers. Prophecy wins out in the Battlecruiser department. I see a lot more Minmatar HACs than Amarr HACs (though the Amarr ones are good too.) And for Battleships, Amarr wins out for most stuff. Overall I would say yes, Amarr has better large ships, but on the other hand is limited to EM/Thermal damage only. That can be a problem in PvP. I am a Minmatar who went for Amarr BS first cause the Apoc has 8 turrets, Typhoon isn't too great and the Tempest looks like crap. Cool

I'd say just use whichever one you like more. You can try them both out for relatively few skill points, and make a decision before you go for T2 weapons etc...

Minmatar all the way.Laughing

We may not be pretty or very intelligant. but we can lift heavy things and hit hard.

Its difficult to say which is best. I have seen a tempest do incredible things and have seen it ripped to shreds. All depends on what takes you fancy.

I would say that the larger Minmatar ships are much less forgiving of low skills than Amarr or Caldari.

However, I think when taken to max skills, they can be much more effective outside of the "Tank" side of the game.

If your roll playing I'd choose Minmatar because I like the storyline struggle they have. If not choose Amarr because its the best value for your real life $$$. Your get more playing fun and spend less time arguing over why your race is nerfed if you choose Amarr.

ammar = lasers; lasers = em therm dmg ; but thx to crystals can have a wide fariety of range
ammar = sp friendly . even with fairly low sp you can have good setups
ammar = flying bricks: if you wanna sit in the middle of the fight and laugh at anything that comes to you, this is it

minmatar = projectiles= all types of dmg depending on ammo BUT depending on artillery/ ac , you eat ammo like ****
minmatar = sp intensive rifter = very good at low sp even stabber but once you go ruptrue , bc , bs , hac you need alot sp
minmatar = speed, you get in, shoot the crap out of someone , and get out or if needed you can run away

pick whichever race you like because the game is rather balanced hence you can do same stuff with all races, so it really comes down to which ships you like more

Minnie ships take up alot of skillpoints while the amarrian ships take less.

Amarr ships = laser, cap and armour tank skills = good.

Minnie ships = projectile , missiles , drones + endless of other stuff = good

so if you want to be a bad ass Bs pilot soon go for amarrian ships.

So if you want to be a bad ass Minnie BS pilot later go for minnie ships.

The apoc was built by minmatar slaves. That's why it's missing a few bits here and there (the slaves kept eating them).

Both have strengths and weaknesses. Depending what your using the ships for is the main thing. I fly minmatar and would never say they were weaker, you can do so much with the ships, you can make nearly any ship fit the role needed so long as you have the skills.

For example:
Rupture is one of the best 1v1 cruisers, it can tackle, tank, and do damage while being quicker and smaller than other races ships. In support of a group it can act as a sniper and do great damage dealing and even use electronic warefare on the target while shooting it.

Yes you need more skills for Minmatar BUT this is usually to make them flexable as they are meant to be, one idea I considered is to do Gallente then move to Minmatar.
It's quite possible to do Amarr then move to Minmatar. You can be a good Amarr pilot sooner and as long as you don't invest to much time into the ship skills and laser turret skills (level 3 or 4) you have the option of going either way. This will allow you to play as both then continue your favorite race into Tech II ships + modules.

Start as Amarr and train:
Armour
Gunnery
Drones
along with fitting and cap skills that all races need.

Then switch to Minmatar and train:
Shields
Missiles

This can also be done with Gallente to Minmatar. I wouldn't recommend doing it with Caldari though as most minmatar ships and setups I see / use don't commonly use missiles as a main weapon and are more for specific situations.

Hope this helps.

As far as I have seen, minmatar ships use even less railguns/blasters then missiles. Wink
I'd say Caldari and Gallente go well together because they both use hybrids. Caldari and Minmatar also works because you can go missiles only with caldari (kestrel, caracal, raven) which are also useful for minmatar.

As for your decission of either amarr or minmatar... try them out, train both to cruiser lvl and do missions with maller/omen/stabber/rupture. See what you like better. The long training is the one needed for tech2 stuff. That's when you should decide.
The background story of the races should also be a factor if you like roleplay. Fortunately, Amarr and Minmatar both have a big roleplay playerbase, so you will get some with either race if you want to.

With factional warfare coming soon, ask yourself if you'd rather be a slave holding imperialistic amarr or freedom fighting minmatar terrorist. Wink
My personal recommendation is of course Amarr. Death to the terrorists! (Or enslavement. Works as well.)

doNīt go amarr. when you are rich enough then you might get tempest and that ship can be used as closerange, dmg, tanker and longrange, dmg.
about that you think that amarr cruisers are the best one, you are wrong. The Rupture has awesome firepower and tank and should be able to beat any cruisers in the game.
and about the rifter. It's the best frig in the game because of the slots, nice tanker and nice firepower. and can be a tackler too. Wink

Depends on what you want to do. In my opinion Amarr are great for making money ie pve, mining etc. Also you dont have to really worry about running out of ammo with an amarr ship. Minmatar are better for pvp. but they use ammo so that limits you to an extent in pve.
