Members in my corporation have started talking about "bigger and better" options to the corporation. One of those options someone asked about was an alliance.

I am aware of the benefits of an alliance but I was wondering how they actually work in the game. I am tempted to just create an alliance and mess around with it to see how it works and all that, but I know you can't even disband a corp in EVE and I do not want to end up in a stupidly-named Alliance if it's the same way.

In other words I'm trying to get a heads up of what I'm getting into when forming an alliance.

i believe it'll cost more to war dec you, you'll also get a joint chat channel with any other corperations in your alliance. But for a billion isk, it'd probably be cheaper to create a private channel and hire some mercs Wink

When you click the create alliance button, it says nothing about paying any money to do so. Does it cost money to have an alliance? Money meaning in-game mechanics (like paying office fees)?

It costs 1 billion ISK and you need Empire Control V to create an alliance.

Ahhh...1 billion to create it. Is there a monthly maintenance fee for the alliance or anything like that?

I know not too many people have created an alliance. If there is an FAQ/guide on how the alliance system works that would be awesome.

Ahh the wonderful world of forming an alliance!!

Well ... lets see ... I think I may have a thing or two insightful for you AND others out there.

1. COST = 1 Billion isk
  • Its DEFINATELY not cheap BUT also NOT the isk sink the game needs (another thread another time)

  • Consider dividing the cost between a couple of 'founding' corps ... IMHO the best way to raise the capital

2. SKILLS = EMPIRE CONTROL LEVEL 5
  • You definately need to decide if this is the direction you want your character to go. Training time is everything AND this will take a good portion of your time

3. MAINTAINANCE FEES = 2 million/per corp/per month
  • HOPE you have some income ... our little alliance has paid upwards of 50 million a month JUST to be identified as being a part of the alliance

==============================

THE UPS

1. NETWORKING
  • For new corporations coming in, they have INSTANT friends!

2. NEW ASSETS
  • Can't get your hands on that TECH II BPO/BPC ... maybe the newest member of the alliance just may have one stashed away

3. GROUP ACTIVITIES
  • Group mining, PVP, how bout running some complexes together? There is always someone around looking for something to do.

4. COMPANIONSHIP
  • With larger numbers, the more people that are on at different times. ie. ALLIANCE chat ALWAYS having someone in it to talk to!

=====================================

THE DOWNS

1. TARGET
  • With the game mechanics, being in an alliance makes it easier for someone to target you for war. 100 million to declare on you ... NO DETERENT ... its like paying 100 million isk to have more targets

2. RED TAPE
  • Getting stuff done takes longer than usual ... you gotta try to keep people happy

===============================

These are just a few things to think about off the top of my head. NOW that i've put a little thought to it .. i think i may just write a 'how to' thread and go into a little more depth when i have some more time .... its late and i need some sleep ...

please feel free to contact me in game
