What I would love to be able to do is search for all items/skills that affects something I'm interested. For example, I'm interested in increasing the speed of my ship, what are all the skills and items I could use/purchase to do this.

At this stage, is it really just about knowing/researching and asking about what items/skills could what you require?

Well, you figured out what you want, next you find the item or mod that gives you what you want, then you check the requirements of the said items.

I have yet to come across a tool that would figure everything out for you. But there are some tools that would tell you what the result would be if you fit this and that. Check out the ships and modules forum for a player made tool called Quickfit.

I don't understand your question. Are you asking for a direction of what you should do? Question

There are are few things I want to do with my ship (improve the capacitor, reduce capacitor usage, improve powergrid, improve speed), and I know there are skills and items that can do all this.

To find these skills and items, I essentially browse the item database, looking for stuff I am after, and I'm sure I'm going to miss items, or not know about certain skills or something like that. So I was just wondering if there is an easier way of find items/skills that do something in particular?

I guess with experience it will just come easier, and thats probably the way it should be.

Energy Management +5% capacitor
Engineering +5% powergrid
Electronics +5% cpu
Afterburner +10% duration
Fuel Conservation -10% cap need (AB)
Evasive Maneuvering +5% agility
Acceleration Control +5% speed boost (AB and MWD)
High Speed Maneuvering -5% cap need (MWD)
Navigation +5% thrusters
Warp Drive Operation -5% cap need (for warp)

That's all per level. Just browse the skills and read the descriptions.

The stuff is pretty logically sorted, the only messy category that comes to my mind is science.

Any kind of speed improvement would be in the navigation category

I am currently trying to get to work on a third party application to help there. Something that lists all skills and mods that affect what a person is looking for. I also want to include the ship data so that bonuses for skills with certain ships show up as well. Also it will show mods to avoid using because they have a negative effect.

There are other factors that I need to incorporate as well that don't really show up as an exact match. An example would be someone looking for skills and mods that give speed boosts may not realise that agility also helps so a cross reference link needs to be applied for this, along with the math that gives the resulting speed increase for it. I might need some help later with this from someone with a lot more experience in Eve than I have. If anyone is willing to offer this help, I'd be really grateful as it would save me a lot of time searching for the info.

Hopefully, I can get hold of a database of the information to save me typing it all in myself so I can get to work on the programming side of it rather than have to waste time gathering data.

Cpt Placeholder: You are right. Its really not that difficult. I think I was feeling a bit lost for a moment there, but when you sit down and work your way through it, its not too bad.

Drizit: That sounds great, and gathering the data would be very time consuming. Maybe write something to spider the item database from the site (if that is allowed).

Not sure about the legality of spidering them. Also, it would be time consuming to write something that needs continual access to the site and needs to be directed to a specific page every time. Not only that but, as things change with mew ships and mods as well as maybe new skills, it would need to be re-written every time to access the new pages. I'd rather create a database that can be updated with new information each time and then put it up for grabs as an update to the database for users. That way, the program essentially has no further need for modification apart from minor bug fixes.

In addition, you would have to be online to use it if it spidered form the Eve site and since there are still players with dial-up, it would cost them to use it each time. The general idea is that you could use it offline to plan a strategy of training and even plan how you could refit a ship to perform as you want it to before you even logged in.
