Oops, your right about the stacking. Lesson learnt there not to assume things in eve, my bad.

I run level 4s in this:

6x Cruise Launcher II
1x Small Tractor Beam I
1x Heavy Diminishing Power System Drain I

1x XL C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I
1x Heavy F-RX Prototype I Capacitor Boost
1x Large Shield Extender II
2x Shield Hardener II (based on mission enemy)
1x F-90 Positional Sensor Subroutines

2x Ballistic Control System II
2x Power Diagnostic System II
1x Gravimetric Backup Array II

With my skills I have 295 MW and 13 CPU remaining. Also, 7 medium T2 drones based on the mission enemy (either Vespa or Infiltrator usually). Normal Level 4 mission load out is 4x 800 cap boosters loaded and another 8 in cargo, plus 1200 Prescision and 400 Fury cruise missiles, also the type is based on the threat. Comments?

That is exactly the kind of setup that lets people run lvl4s in different ship faster than in that Raven...

Train and use T2 siege, theyre much better for lvl4 missions than T2 cruise, especially if you use target painters.
Ditch the Tractor Beam and use a loot ship instead to gain one more nos. Get rid of sensor booster and the godawful shield extender which has no place whatsoever on a proper PvE fitted Battleship. Add hardeners/painters instead. ISK permitting, you can replace the shield booster for a gist large or even xlarge one and get rid of the cap injector to fit another hardener or painter.
Get rid of the grav backup and put in a damage control. If fitting permits, replace one PDU with a 3rd BCU for more damage on easier missions.

Voila, now you got a good Raven rather than a below average one.

From my experience I remember NOS'ing a rat several times if it's not a frigate.

And regarding the shield booster, the XL version eats a lot of cap. And that's with solid cap skills, shield booster reduction implant, etc. The large uses alot less cap and the tank holds fine with a shield boost amplifier.

the large and XL sield boosters use exactly the cap/HP.
If you want to boots e.g. 1000 HP you will have to use the same ammount of energy with Large or XL booster.

Sigh... why does everyone have to argue with me? =/

11.5% nonstacking shield resistance bonus for a single low slot module; how this could not be considered a massive resistance boost is mind boggling, considering the difference between a t1 and t2 specific type hard is 5%, the difference between a t1 hard and gist a-type is 9.5%, and 11.75% for x-type. Obviously hards are subject to the stacking penalty too.

Damage control provides resistances across the board at negligible energy cost and minimal cash demands when compared to the cost of superior hards.

I dont quite get how you think my logic of "a single lowslot module that saves your ships is better than any other module" equates to "hey lets use all the low slots to do something that doesnt work!".... if putting full cap relays in the lows actually allowed you to run the booster 24/7 hells ya I would do that, but at best it provides half the needed amount, at least with my skills.

Sure it's possible with faction stuff, but if I was using faction I wouldnt need to run it indefinately anyways.

Because you do not provide enough information to back up your statements :)

That said, your above arguement is good, I'll switch out a PDU II and switch in a Internal Damage Control and take see how it works. I think however, that I believe you and it will work better. Perhaps I can switch out my cap recharger and slide in a target painter as well ... hmmmm

Hello. I'm looking into starting a few level 4's in Gallente space... and, happened to notice this topic. And yes... I'm flying a Raven. >.>

I've noticed alot of tech 2 builds, is this really necessary for a level 4, or can it be done with some tech 1 stuff? My current configuration is:

High
-------------------------------------
6x Cruise Missile I's
2x Nos (One diminishing, one regular)

Medium
-------------------------------------
100mwn AB 2
Large shield booster I
Invulnerability Field II
F-90 Sensor Booster
Ionic Field Accelerator I
Tech 2 large shield extender

Low
-------------------------------------
Internal Force Field Array I
2x PDS
2x BCS I

Is this good enough to start level 4's, or should I bide my time (or grab a buddy >.>)

PS: Oops, forgot to add stuff on my skills! 4.4mil. Most of my missile skills are at level 3... shield skills at level 4, as well as the energy systems operation skill. Energy management is... kinda low though. >.> At level 2. My drones are suffering as well, at level 4 still (but being trained to level 5 as I post)

One invul and a large shield booster is gonna keep you alive for about 20 seconds on a lot of level 4s. You'll notice most other setups here use an XL booster and multiple hardeners. This is for good reason ;)

1 heavy nos
anything you can fit in the extra slot

I think there is nothing wrong with fitting a tractor beam instead of a second heavy Nos. With good skills and a proper fitting I have never been so starved of cap where that second Nos would have been the difference. Also, not all missions are on your hometurf, so having a loot ship pick up the loot is not always convenient (unless you have an industrial in every surrounding system, which I guess is an idea).

As far as the low slots are concerned, obviously Leandro is right and that Grav array has no place there. Another BCU, PDS, or a damage control mod would be ideal.

The midslots is where this config has most problems. I have no problem with using a cap booster, since you will never die as long as you have charges, but if you need extra cap so bad, why not use a second Nos instead? Also, if you are planning on looting with the raven, being stuffed with charges isn't optimal.
Leandro is right also in pointing out that the large shield extender has no place here. Coming from a Ferox this was the first mod I put on a raven, but it is really all about your resistances, not about the size of your shields. So I think you need 3 hardeners at all times, 4 when you face multiple resistances.
Ive only found use the for the sensor booster in vengeance, when you want to knock out sentries that are over 100kms away. Other than that, another hardener, or shield amp.

I like the cruise launchers, because to get the most out of your torps in most missions you really need 2 TP's. Otherwise you deal more damage overall with cruises. I'm talking with T1 ammo though and all revelant skills at highest levels (I don't have xp with T2 ammo yet, but in such case I hear torps are the way to go).

I lost the shield extenders immediately when I moved up to a Raven but it is a painful transition getting used to 2/3rds the total shield with less resistances :) When you first start out a Raven seems like a tissue paper tank ... it gets better :)

Question about fitting - I must be getting something wrong here. I haven't got the raven yet, but according to quickfit I could do this:

6x 'named' Cruise Launcher
2x 150mm Proto rails

1x XLarge C5-L
2x EM Active Hardener
2x Thermal Active Hardener
1x Shield Booster

3x BCU
2x ??

This would leave me enough pg/cpu to do fit more stuff, and yet I see some of the T1 builds with PDU's. Is that just for the cap recharge, or is Quickfit just not very accurate? My fitting skills aren't great tbh :(

It will be used for fighting bloods, how does the above setup look?

Also, if the majority of the fighting would be BS are torps or cruise better?

Well, I run level 4s in a CN Raven with faction modules and a set of crystal implant and 5% handwriting.

Here is the setup:

High
7x T2 Cruise (T1 cruise / T2 Fury)
Selynne's Modified Heavy Nosferatu
Medium
Gist X-Type XL SB
Kaikka's Invul Field
DG Invul Field
Chelm Heavy Cap Booster (Cap 800)
2x Rat type Gist X-Type Hardener
Low
Estamel's BCU
Kaikka's BCU
2x DG BCU
Vizan's Reactor Control Unit

With this setup, the rats type resistance yield between 83-90% and shield boost @ 1014/4 sec. My shield and Cap never drop below 50%. The raw DPS is arround 700. Usually I take 2000xT2 Fury (for BS), 1500xT2 Precision (for CR & frig) and 10xCap 800 in cargohold and never ran out of ammo and charge. I manage to do lvl4 petty quick. The Cap Booster is just a safety switch.

Has anyone tried dropping some of the medium drones they use on the missions and carrying one or two sentry drones?

Looks like those would take a lot of damage and have quite a long range too.

I can only field 5 drones anyway so carrying 7 drones doesn't seem optimal. However I could carry one sentry drone and 5 mediums.

Then I could use 1 sentry and 4 meds, or 5 meds, depending on the situation.

Am I really the only person Armor tanking my Raven?

6x named Cruise
Drone Augment (drone range +20 km)
Medium Remote Armor rep (repair the drones and corpmates too)

4x named Cap recharger
Omni tracking Unit (drone range + damage 1.2x)
Named Target Painter

2x Named PDS
2x True Sansha Energized Nano Adaptive passive
Large named Armor Repair
Five medium and five light drones. Usually Valks and Hobgoblins

Now I have to say I have very strong armor skills, and I worry less with this setup than when I shield tank.

The Armor resistances (least is explosive at 50%) are what save me.

Now I know this is counter intuitive, but for me it works. And the few times a Minnie PKer has tried they are happy with how fast the sields go down. At least until they hit the brick wall under the shields!

Its that 2.5 mil BS on the Guistras mission that causing me a problem, my current setup is

Highs:
6x Arby seige
2x whatever usually tractorbeams

Meds:
2x Thermal hardeners (named)
2x Ballistic hardeners (named)
1x Clarge CL5 shield booster
1x Cap injector (named) 800 charges

Lows
3x PDU II
2x BCU II

Now after reading everythig im thinking of replacing the injector with a shiled boost amp, and ditchin 1 BCUII with another PDUII and as a long term plan get my hands on techII hardeners and such.

advice kids?

im training up atm for a raven.... i have good armor tanking skills and have never before tanked shield much :P excluding the time when i rode around in a velatur whit a civ shield boost :D

im doing missions in gallente space and in low sec (0.2), and like to know is this setup could do em solo...

6x arby siege
1x named nos

1x XL C5-L Shield booster (i can use t2 but that makes me loose one low slot due to CPU)
1x 5a Prototype Shield Support I
4x t2 active hardeners ( mission spesiffic)

3x PDS t2
2x BCU t2

5x med t2 drones

do i really need the nos, if not ill drop that and go for t2 XL booster :D

EDIT: and i cant decide what to use.... siege or cruise :P i know siege hits hard on BSs and bigger stuff, but cruise can hit cruisers and stuff good allso, but will be lacking on the dmg to take out harder BS spwans.

1x t2 XL Shield Booster
1x Shield Boost Amp (named)
4x t2 Rat specific Hardners

Yes Torps and painters are better, but I prefer the higher resists. There is no mission this setup can't handle.

I have max cpu skills (I believe) and i cant fit this setup. I come up 5 cpu short.

Are you using some sort of implant somehwere?

Fitting a t2 cruise raven becomes even more problimatic :(

Hi, thought I'd add my own setup:

Highs:

6x Arbalest Cruise Launchers (Try hitting frigs with torpsCrying or Very sad )
1x Heavy Ghoul
1x Drone Link Augmentor (For increased drone range)

or

3x Arbalest Siege Launchers
3x Arbalest Cruise Launchers
1x Heavy Ghoul
1x Drone Link Augmentor

Meds:

(varies with mission)
2x Invulnerability Field II
1x Large Shield Booster II (I cry when I see X-Larges)
1x Shield Boost Amplifier
2x Rat Specific T2 Shield Hardeners

or

1x Invulnerability Field II
1x Large Shield Booster II
4x Rat specific T2 shield hardeners (for that sweet tank)

(Afterburners are FTL)

Lows:

2x Ballisitc Control Unit II
2x Power Diagnostic II
1x Internal ForceField Array I (Or F84/85 Versions)

or

2x Ballistic Control Unit II
3x Power Diagnostic Unit II

I use these setups for all my level 4 missions and as yet have had no troubles, I can quite happily manage both extravaganza missions and worlds collide level 4 without resorting to running away. One poster suggested using drones instead of guns for frigs and fitting sieges in highs, however there are a few missions where popping out your drones to take out frigs isnt a viable option (unless you like aggroing everything in sight) therefore cruises seemed like my best bet although I have tried a 50/50 split with cruise and torps I felt I did better with just the cruise's.

Once Ive increased my engineering skills all to level 5, I'll try out a tank using shield resistance amps instead of active hardeners and see how that goes. Very Happy

I've decided to use my alt as support with a Typhoon while I fly a Raven in L4 Caldari Navy missions.
I have the Typhoon setup down and it's cheap and boosts my Raven 174.6 cap/second (and the Raven eats 104 cap/second).

I was, however, wondering what sort of setup I should go for on the Raven.
I don't expect the setup should be anything special beyond a clear orientation toward max damage and high resistances and including an XL shield booster.

So this is what I came up with:
6x cruise launchers (can't use T2 launchers so I'll use whatever I can afford, probably XT-9000s)
2x stuff I still need to decide (probably 1-2 tractor beams or maybe turrets to help kill frigates)

XL C5-L Shield Booster
4x NPC-specific hardeners
Shield Boost Amp

3x Ballistic Controls
Damage Control
1x something I can't decide on -- I'd fit a PDS there if I didn't have the Typhoon behind me, but now I don't feel the PDS is of any use, sooooo... yeah, any ideas?

A few questions come to mind:
- If I were to take out of the shield hardeners, what's something that would be worth fitting in that free med slot? A sensor booster to lock (and shoot) stuff from farther away? A target painter? Another shield boost amp? A large (not XL) shield booster (dunno if that'll fit)?
(note I thought about an afterburner but decided against it)

- Will I not have problems breaking the tanks of some of the tougher NPCs (e.g. bosses or whatever) with cruise launchers? I have all missile support skills at level 4. I'm asking because I've not run an L4 mission in ages and I know there's a bunch of new missions.

- Since the Typhoon boosts more than I need (I need 104 cap/second), I could probably swap out some of its energy transporters with large turrets to add some damage, and then since I won't need so much cap recharge mods, I could fit target painters in the med slots, and then that would open new possibilities on the Raven -- would 6x siege launchers be an option then?

- How to kill frigs effectively without using drones at all; it seems small turrets or target painters would be option in my case?

Thanks for taking the time to read; I'd very much appreciate to hear people's thoughts.

Sell the Typhoon, buy a Gist Booster. Even just a C-Type large one should carry you through all missions (It did for me anyway) without the hassle of a second ship, which in some missions causes stage aggro too.

I don't think I should be too worried about stage aggro if I can leave the XL booster running all the time with the Typhoon boosting, should I? (I don't know, so I'm really just asking).

Anyway, how much do Gist C-Type Large boosters go for? I can't seem to find one on escrow right now, but I'm not rich (I have 350 mill in my wallet right now and I still need to buy the Raven and equip it), so if the Typhoon option is cheaper then that's still better for me.

Edit: never mind, I see that B-Type Large boosters go around 160-170 mill and that's decent, although still expensive... I'll think about it, thanks.

Just be careful with your alt Wink On some missions the second warp in ship gets all aggro and your Typhoon will be the rats primary target Rolling Eyes
I run missions with my Raven and and an alt in a Ferox.
The ferox is boosting my shields, remote sensor boosting and is using a gang assist module. But I only let my alt into a deadspace complex when i am absolutely shure that everything is under control and are ready to warp out if anything goes wrong Wink
You should fit your raven so it can handle the mission alone and then use your alt only to speed things upCool

WOW, i didnt realise it was still possible to solo lvl 4 missions with a raven.

Everyone ingame ive spoken to suggests its vertually impossible...... are there any tactics that are neccersarry for acheiving this solo ownership of level 4's..... or is a decent setup and some common sense pretty much all you need?

Edit:: How do i get my face to appear on the left??
