I was just thinking about this multi billion investment and the problem that it could pose for an alliance or corporation if the pilot for some reason couldn't get online. As I understand them, they are treated the same as any ship in the game, i.e. one pilot per ship.

I was thinking of the following additions/changes for these 2 classes of ships and wonder what you all think about them ?

1) They should be able to be "locked down", i.e. the pilot can not leave the corporation while piloting it. For obvious reasons Wink

2) A corporation should be able to "assign" multiple pilots to the ship that can "clone jump" to it, even if the current pilot is offline.

3) They should show up on corporation assets list so the CEO and Directors know exactly where they are at all times.

Any other ideas about these beasts ?

I'm a POS noob,

But can't you keep certain corp members from entering your pos? With a ship password? Ofcourse you have to have "allow Corp members" unchecked.

Well the thing is you could steal a mothership or titan.. but then what? Since you can't dock there's no way for you to sell, trade, escrow or reprocess it. In fact the only thing you can do is fly it to your own POS and keep it yourself or self destruct it for a laugh. Also, you need some rather extreme skills to be able to fly this thing. In other words you can't nick it with some noob alt.. If you want to steal it you'll have to put the reputation of your main character on the line and I doubt you'll have an easy time getting into a new corp or simply surviving after pulling off a stunt like that.

Handy thing on the map is "show corpmembers in space" and seeing a titan/mothership can't dock you'll always know where he is so you can at least camp his ass down and kill him for stealing your 70b isk ship :P

the "show corpmembers in space" has never really worked. press "show corpmembers in space", wait for randomess to jump in and you will get some of your members in space depending on your luck factor...

i think its stupid that a ship can not dock, it forces a player to be "online" the whole time so the rest of the group can enjoy the usefullness of titans and mothership (not that i belive they are of any use atm).

giving a ship to another member is an alternative "fix", but a very high security issue, as humans tends to do stupid things when they got "things with value" due to greed.. its human nature so i expect it to happen at least once.

Please correct me if I am wrong here.

The Titan pilot could use a 2nd account to scout local while he ejects from the ship and egg warps to a nearby system to leave corp, start a new corp, then start a new alliance with that corp as the executor corp, then go back to the Titan and sit in space while he accepts the applications of a POS specialist corp into the alliance who constructs a large POS with a Capital Ship Maintenenance Array where he could store the Titan.

OR he could train up an alt who starts a new alliance while still being in the corp who gave him the Titan to fly, safespot the Titan with a 2nd account in local a jump from his alt corp's offices where he applies, then goes back to the Titan in the system with a POS in that executor corp and docks the Titan at the Capital Ship Maintennace Array.

This all hinges on whether you can store an assmebled Titan at a Capital Ship Maintenance Array AND whether he can repel the attacks of his angy ex corpmates who agent search his ass and find out where he is.

But it will take 24 hours since you would need that time to get rid of the ability to pilot them 24 hours before leaving corp.

There was a long thread about this a coupple of months back and a dev popped in and said that was a good idea.

most alliances will probably get round it with a titan account... anyone with clearance gets the pass, ofc the only ppl who get clearance would be top directors etc. Happens quite abit with dreads already. Sure one of 'em could nick it but given the amount of effort the guys in say bob put in thats not gonna happen.

I recall reading in the RMR notes that Titan's and Motherships can have two users concurrently. I'm not sure what they mean by that exactly though. However having two pilots for these things would reduce that chance that it'll be stolen a lot.

You have basic insurance on tech 1 ships even if you don't insure them, the payout is under or about 30%

Ow I didn't know that. Yeah then steal and self destruct would be a viable option. Joining a new alliance would be rather.. dangerous.. I doubt many people in Eve take kindly to thiefs. They might just pop your Titan and fraps it for a good laugh.

Unless one is paid by another alliance to do exactly that, steal someone else's titan/mothership for them. Paying someone half the value kind of beats the full cost, cost of bpo, the factory POS and the weeks needed to assemble one... ^^;

... and u just buy a char for the job, the value of a titan is more then enough for the price tag on any char on the sell forum. it will be a big blow for the alliance that looses a ship like that.Crying or Very sad

I personally doubt that titans and motherships will ever be "stolen" or "scammed" in the classic sense of someone sneaking into a corp with their main, getting a corp to buy one for you, then leaving.

Rationale: if you can persuade a corp to give you a mothership or titan, that amount of trust is actually MORE valuable than the ship, because you can use it to get future ships, and since the only way to get one of those is via an alliance funding it. . .almost always, taking the ship and leaving would just be stupid.

However.

I consider it *extremely* likely that someone will get a titan or mothership on their character -- and then sell the character for real-life cash. That's the sort of scam we'll see with these ships, not in-game ones. You're looking at a several-thousand-dollar temptation there.

Not really. There wont be many titans in the game. I'm sure that someone from ccp watched the ebayers, if a titan holding char turned up i think they might look into it. Besides, whos gonna believe that they actually HAVE a titan. Self destruct and ebay the money maybe.
