Hello,

I just got butchered on a Level II drone mission. I am relativly new to Eve, I find the pirate missions easy, however as soon as a drone one comes up I struggle. I have tried re-kitting my ship for them, but it seems to have little affect.

I fly a Caracal. So 5 Hi, 4, Me, 2 Lo slots.

What configuration would you recommended?

I have tried...

2 dual 150mm Hybrids, 2 Missile FOF Launchers, 1 Heavy Missile Launcher
Hull repairer, Afterburner, Shield Recharger, Shield Booster
200mm plates, Armour repair

and...

3 125mm Hybrids, 2 Heavy Launchers.
Same for the rest.

When dealing with drone infestations and similar you must be prepared to be orbited by fast moving small targets... Your guns cannot easily help you here, and you need a lot of shield or similar to withstand the constant pressure if you cant pick them off your back...
Drop the guns (sorry, but it's necessary) - If you like guns, you'd need to get a Moa - With the Caracal on lv2 missions I'd suggest 3 assault launchers and 2 heavy launchers...
I have lock on 57km - heavy missiles on about 50-55km and assault missiles on 30km
Rockets would be better against drones, but this setup should really get you through lv2 kill missions quite easy if you have descent skills...

In meds you should have SB, AB and something to boost your shield - I like to use a medium shield extender and a medium cap battery as well (plenty of options)
In low I have Co-processor and armour repper - I had 2 co-processors until my electronics skill reached 4... the last co-processor will be exhanged in time...

The CPU was the biggest problem for me - be in mind some of the named wapons have much lower cpu than standards, so try get your hand on these to avoid filling you slots with fitting-helpers...

Plz eve-mail me or similar if you need help...

I always use sabertooth and thunderbolt missiles against drones.
Prove effective to me.

First tip: Do not mix weapons if not forced by ship stats. A caracal should always have 5 missiles launchers on it. Either 5x Assault Launchers if you fight a lot of frigates or 5x Heavy Launchers if you fight a lot of cruisers.

Second tip: Do not have a hull repair on while flying, a hull repair is something you put on when you get back to base after a mission if you don't want to pay the repair costs.

Third tip: Do not mix armortank and shield tank on the same ship, focus on 1. For a caracal something like this in medslots perhaps:
1x Afterburner, 1x medium shield booster, 2x active shield hardeners, type depends on what you are fighting. Kinetic + thermal or EM + thermal most likely.
If you think you don't need the afterburner but either a 3rd hardener or a cap recharger in it's place.

Lowslots: Fitting mods (Reactor controll, Power Diagnostic system, Co-Processors) to fit the above, if any space left add Ballistic Controll Systems to do more damage

Where is there specific information or database on NPC drone types (Render, Sunder, Ripper, Devestator, etc)? I'd like to tailor my loadout to their weaknesses...

TIA!
