Have you received any good ideeas regarding this?
Do you have your own ideeas about this matter, or the system will probably not change?
As I see things, this can solve 2 problems: making mining a more attractive proffesion and solving the macromining problem to a certain degree.

one way of making it interactive is by key presses.... the faster you press the keys the more ore you mine, but have it that you can switch between auto and manual to give your fingers a rest Very Happy

Typing of the Mining, like Typing of the Dead.

Everytime you you finish a sentence you get ore depending on speed and accuracy. Better ores require longer sentences.

Drop below a certain speed / accuracy level and you get flagged. Pirates can then attack you via Typing of the Attacking, where the quicker they can type smack, the more they hit for.

Double yield / damage if you are programming code for CCP or fixing bugs.

Yes, they launch gasses at your ship and um... if you get them into structure they self-destruct and blow you up.

Mining Sharpnel from Arkanor hits you doing, "Ow, that got me in the f***ing eye." Points of damage.

Yup mixing Rats type would be nice...

Drones, standard, NPC miner could be fun...

Having surper tough weapons less drone BS or Dread with a medium drone support fleet in empire space cleaning up roids. This would make Noobs aliance working to keep those away from the Belts. Just make sure the drop ain't that great.

I always thought it would be interesting if we could have a scannerview open and see a flat plain of where we're mining with veins of ore and such. Then we could mine along the veins. Mining the other areas would produce rubbish in the cargo hold or yield very little at all. That way people who are macroing can't just sit there collecting good ore and people who are paying attention will get a nice boost to the ore they get for the extra effort put in.

I have said it time and time again, and it's worth repeating here: mining would be thrilling if asteroids screamed in a high pitched voice and threatened to petition you for harassment while you mined them.

I've never DCMed, but didn't morphite damage your ship when you mined it? Maybe if mining was a more dangerous profession that way it would be more interesting.

For instance, in EQ2 when you did any crafting it was handled almost like combat, in that you had crafting abilities you "cast" while doing the crafting. For instance, to make a bar of iron, you went to a forge and started the item. Your guy would hammer away but you'd get different conditions like Impurities and Heat Flare (from the furnace) that you cast your abilities to counteract. If you failed, your fellow took damage. Your character could even be killed crafting (say in a tragic alchemy mishap, or a sewing accident *chortle*).

Something similar for EVE would be interesting. For one, it virtually eliminated using macros to craft in EQ2. And it would be kind of hard to macromine that way.

Is this the time for me to reveal a deep, dark, secret?
I think it is.

Now, in Eve I don't make much beyond what I need (so ammo then).
Crafting in Eve is super boring.
I don't gather in Eve (mine), because it is boring.
I do however quite enjoy blowing things up, because Eve makes it fun.

But...
... I actually enjoy crafting in EQ2.

Right, no-one ever mention this again.

Replace it with a mini-game of Asteroids. The higher your score the more Ore you get.

Does quoting it equate to mentioning it again? Durnit.

I don't mind the tech2 system of crafting, actually. It's complicated enough to be interesting, though in reality all you do is put stuff in things, link components together and kick back for a few hours while it churns.

EQ2's system WAS actually pretty fun, there's no shame in admitting that. The game as a whole was fairly fun, especially now that it doesn't have the FFXI-style grind. It's the ONLY MMO I've played where after a long day of adventuring, it was kind of fun to unwind and craft up items with the gathered resources you had. Of course SOE screwed the pooch with the crafting system, making it so there wasn't the reliance on crafted items from other crafter classes, but that's a whole other story.

So let me see.... Mining skill affects how much ore you get per point. Gunnary controls your rate of fire, Shield Operation for shields (higher skill == longer lasting), I guess you'd need Warp Drive Operation to be able to use hyperspace (higher skill == less chance of blowing up).

Anything else?

I think that about does it. Might need something to control how often the little UFO guy comes along too, perhaps one of the 'relations skills'. ;)

perhaps have a super large rock in each belt, like taking 5 people with good mining skills 5h to complete it, and at the end when it pops it drops a bpc or something

nothing too uber, maybe faction barges :O

maybe faction lasers,

would sure boost mineral lvls in the short term :)

Let miners have bragging rights, they get a "Roid kill mail" everytime a roid pops.

Never played it. Somehow though I thought SWG would have involved little green men attacking the roids with light sabers. Nevermind.

ps. I like the kill mail idea :)
