I'm not sure if this is the correct behavior or not. I had heard that if you eject from a ship, the NPC's will stop firing on it.

Well, I got myself into a sticky situation trying to bail out another player who was ratting, and found myself alone, scrambled, and taking damage fast. When my armor got to 0, I ejected, and my ship popped instantly, and the same thing happened to the guy I was trying to help.

Rats have behaved like this ever since I started playing. They will continue shooting your ship, regardless of your being in it or not. Hopefully this helps in the future.

Likely the same reason those buggers will actively hunt your abandoned drones when you warp out =/
