ive just started trying to make eve movies, using adobe premiere (erk confusing) and im wondering whats the best codec to encode with? also the best resolution to have eve in for recording and settings for fraps. the film i have made so far the quality is pretty good using wmv but the file size is pretty big, like 40 meg for 2 mins 50 of footage. ive seen films on here that are longer and the same kinda quality but lower file size, whats the best way to go for that? sorry if this sounds dumb but im new to this  thanks |

Use VirtualDub to encode your outputted uncompressed video to WMV9 (Premiere has a bug where it doesn't save your WMV9 settings when you encode, plus its crap at MPEG-4 anyways). H.264 is also good. |

thanks  this is gonna sound even more stupid , but how? i have installed virtualdub and that seems to be working fine, and i can select wmv9 from the list of compression thingys, but how do i make it encode it? thanks |

Please, PLEASE avoid Windows Media at all costs. You simply get higher filesizes and low compatibility. It's a good idea to use .AVI as it is an open standard, and can be read flawlessly under every operating system. .AVI is just a container though, I advise using DivX for excellent compression ratios. To do this, you would need to get a high quality codec for Adobe to export to (direct DivX encoding doesn't work right due to a bug in Premiere). I suggest Alparysoft Lossless Video Codec (free). Install that, and then open Adobe and select Alparysoft as your export codec (go to config and choose Visually lossless). You'll need a couple gigs of hard drive space free. Then you simply need to convert the .AVI codec from Alparysoft to DivX using Virtualdub ( here (follow the guides on their site). Originally by: Evil Edna

I use half resolution fraps myself, because my videos are close range and full of action, i need the framerate. If your videos are slow or ranged, use a higher res. Quote:

Using DivX at about 800k you can get a nice looking film lasting around 6 mins which is about 30mb. Quote:

I like xvid myself, although you need windows media player classic to view, not sure if it displays properly in other players. |

1) Don't use .WMV, yes, I agree, use an AVI container. 2) Use WMV9 codec in an AVI container--trust me, it is far better than DivX (which is horrible) or Xvid (which is somewhat better) for EVE videos. WMV9 simply handles the color gradients better, when you set it on Best Quality mode. Notice that every other movie maker, even Leafo and Lowa use WMV9--it is simply the best for EVE videos. If it ever comes out badly, you did something wrong. Anyone who uses Xvid or Divx for EVE videos is absolutely nuts. They're great for your anime fansubs and movie rips, but not for EVE videos. |

H.264...end of question. Excelent Quality and small size if you set it to the lowest bit-rate. At the low setting I could read the local window, the combat notices all that stuff perfectly. it was like 18.7megs for 4:18mins at 1024x768. I would have a link for you...but that is going to be used in a vid probablY:) |

i have an even more silly question  when i export my vid from premiere it comes up in the middle of the screen with big borders round the edge, yet i have dragged the video out to fit the screen in the monitor bit. i did it right before but for the life of me cant remeber how to do it again  any help would be appreciated thxs |

Xvid is by far the best codec IMO. I don't think WM even stands close. |
