What about a probe that can be launched in a system and the user can then monitor instantaneously, the number ships that are in the system via the map. This would allow remote monitoring of one or more systems for hostile/friendly fleets. The probes could be given a maximum duration and the pilots skill would decide how many he could have active at any one time. The map functionality would be similar to how it was before the updates, but would only report on systems with an active probe.

That would be a bit too overpowered imo, but instead why not have a sub-structure that would be linked to a POS (from which the feedback can be monitored)?

in my opinion this is how 0.0 would work. local would only show the number in local not the names. but if your alliance has soverienty in said system you would be able to know who is there. and if you had 3 towers with a certain hard to fit structure you would be able to pin point anyone in that system in about 10 min
