Which do you think would be better? Assuming Signature Focusing is at lvl 4.

Depends on what you are shooting, and what you are shooting with.

So many variables such as range, tacking, sig radius of target, sig radius of guns, target's transversal.

A target painter will increase the sig radius of a target, but that wont help much if you are using 250mm railguns at 10km and your target has a high transversal.

Perhaps some more specific scenario ?

painter will help more against large ships (unless you want to snipe, where range added is nice). if its to help against small ships, a webber might be more useful

its all about whether sig or tracking/range need boosting

The signature focusing skill only gives the bonus to the percentage increase instead of the multiplier btw. So you'll only get 37.5% sig increase with a t2 tp and maxed skill on signature focusing.

It's not exactly complicated.

TP2 with SF lev4: 37.5% better tracking for all ships(nice for gang), 37.5% better damage for oversized missiles, -27% locktime for people locking targetted ship | moderate range | requires targetting
TC2: 30% better tracking, 15% better range | infinite range | does not require targetting
90% webber: 900% better tracking for all ships | 10km range | requires targetting

Target painter is what I use now. I used to use the tracking comp, but the painter helps missiles, and drones hit the target better.

If i don't use the tp my damage from missiles (heavy) drop by 40 - 50 points. I think the ultimate would be to have the following:

AB II, Tracking Comp II, Target Painter II, Webber II (i know it doesn't exist) Cap Recharger II/Cap Booster II (200/400).

Hmmm 5 slots Rolling Eyes. Maybe I'll try that out on my Ferox tonight.....Twisted Evil

If you're using missiles & drones, drop the tracking computer altogether... it's not doing you any good. Fit 2 target painters, or a TP2 & webber instead.

I guess I should have clarified the senerio more. I'm planning on using these against frigates with a Heavy Pulse laser in conjunction with a 80-90% webber. It looks like the tracking computer may be better since it would give me a little extra range against cruisers.

Altough I forgot about the painter helping drones too. even though I'll only be using five at a time...

well, i think the TC2 not requiring targetting is a bit moot cos it is quite hard to take advantage of the bonus without em targetted.

and painters don't affect tracking. tracking and sig are seperate

Sig affects tracking, something with its sig increased by 37.5% is 37.5% easier to track.

no, the tracking and sig calculations are seperate. they are then mutliplied together to get the hit chances

Which is what he ment I believe. Bigger target = Easier to track/hit.

If your ship can remain stationary, just pick up another webber. If it's on the move, I could go either way if you can train SF - pulses do rely a bit on optimal, so a comp may be better.
