In the world of EVE, it is arguably very hard to find the "fair" fight. In my brief time in this game, however, I've found that one way to get some good 1 vs 1 experience is to challenge another pilot to a duel. Those fights, although perhaps not as sexy as larger fleet battles, are in my opinion exhilirating, satisfying, and just a great way to test a new setup.

In every duel, one runs the risk that the opposing duelist will pull some form of treachery. Until this evening, every pilot and corp that I have dueled against was true to his or her word: they either won or lost based on their skills, combat decisions, and ship setup. Sometimes other corp members watched fights, but never interfered. I would like to present the exception to the rule (as far as I've experienced it).

Where are my milk and cookies eh? So what's the point of this post? Well it is twofold:

1. If you, like myself, enjoy dueling, don't duel with these turncoats.
2. I guess I'm kind of curious to hear from other pilots. If you were challenged to a duel, would you accept it? Would you abide by it, or try to get the upper hand somehow? What has been other pilots experience with this form of PvP?

There's daily posts about people who dishonour duels, and people going back on their word is lower than any corp thief or pirate. It's completely and utterly lame.

Why can't we have some sort of game mechanic in place so that 1v1s can take place without outside interference.. That and a game mechanic that ensures players safety once ransomed.. YARRRR!!

The safest way to do this is to form a gang with just yourself and your opponent.

One of you warp to a safespot and the other gangwarps to you.

If they intend to dishonour the 1v1 they will drop from gang so they can gang their buddies. This means its not foolproof but safer than your method.

Sorry you got ganked btwSad

Just today I accepted a 1v1. It was a close call, but in the end I won with less than 50% structure.

I had said my thank yous and was just to warp away when a mate of his warps in and blows my badly damaged Rifter to ****.

Oh well, my new Jaguar is waiting, and I hope I meet these lovlee folks soon.

He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight.

In EVE just about anything goes, so expect anything. Simple precautions on your behalf could have prevented it. It's a crap lesson to learn but everyone who plays EVE learns it sooner or later. It's where you go from there that is important.

To be quite honest, eve isn't a western cowboy draw game, so don't feel bad if someone calls you dishonourable or cowardly for not accepting a duel. Eve is about tactics and killing someone on a 2v1 is game.

However, what they did there, that's dishonour. Accepting a duel and then tricking you into a trap is just lame beyond words.

Try Deja's method if you are interested though Wink

In my experience the exception IS the rule. But then again I like to offer people a 1v1 in a gamble for them to get their stuff back after I had pirated them.

I don't do that anymore.

well those who break the 1v1 dues show that their word is worth nothing..and so are they, i would accept a duel. even if the other person cheats all i loose is isk..they will loose credibility, the only thing in this game which is not easily replaced

I would only accept if both parties give 1 billion isk to a neutral 3rd party and if any cheating goes on, all money is given to the victim. There is absolutly no comeback if someone double crosses you. Especially if you are a pirate or hated by most ppl in eve. They would simply say, oh well you deserved it.

Duels have always been allot of fun, fastmofo and myself used to always test setups on each other. Agree to rules before hand, then go at it.

Every time you lose a ship you learn something.

1v1's are usually a bad idea. If you enter a system and a guy challenges you to a 1v1 it usually means he's refit his ship just to kill your ship.

The Munchkins - Really, what you did to Mont, was unfair. But nevertheless, I don't think that accepting a duel is a good idea.

Personally I never duel, except in cases where I know the opponent trusthworthy(ie mostly friends).

Honor? Montecalm wtf are you talking about? There is no honor in your actions eather you poor sob. You and your bunch of pirate wannabies have been terorising defenceless miners and noob pilots in this part of space for some time now. And that is the reason you are on my list m8, and you will stay on it. I am not ashamed or afraid to use any means necessary to get rid of you and your type. And if you feel dishonored, or abused, or wronged, come here in force and we will settle this the old way, don't write bs post, deal with your loss or do something about it.
ps. Kresh, so you offer you'r service, interesting m8, our agreament is no more.
pps. I will not write or answer any posts, if you have something to say to me or my corp, do it ingame...

I never EVER will accept a duel offer.

Why ?

Because I do not believe in fair fights, combat has no honour, it has winners and losers, period. I'm there to kill you, not to ***** around being fair about how I do it.

edit: however, going back on your word after it's been given is lame as hell, and always will be. The excuse that you are a pirate and have been shooting their frineds is nonsensical. It's an excuse to shoot someone, not an excuse to go back on your word.

Most duels I have been in have been honoured.

one vs some BoB guys wasnt, but for the most part they are all pretty sucky so no suprises there

second was back when i used to fly a breacher with cruise missiles and a guy challenged me to a 1v1 frigate duel, turned up in a caracal, left in a pod :)

I almost always accept unless I have good reason to believe it is a trap. For example someone who I challenged to a duel yesterday and declined suddenly being over eager to duel me today.

Duels are, for me, one of the best ways to get some 1v1 fun going. Just ask people in local. I prefer it if it's empty besides us though.

The only dishonourable duel I had was when at the moment I destroyed my opponent (inty v inty fight) an armageddon flew in, so I couldn't get the loot. Quite lame too imho as he must've warped in while the fight was going, luckily inty fights are done quick.

If you let your opponent choose the place to fight, get to an object near it and use the scanner to see if he's really alone. This doesn't prevent people from warping in while you're fighting but helps avoiding traps.

Ps. Never fight at moons in low sec... :)

tbh i very rarly accept duels. ive been decieved before, but if you will accept one make sure you have an escape route planned in case of dishonourable gaming.

ive never lost a ship being decieved this way tho..

Some guy in -V- alliance said he wanted to 1v1 me against my sacrilege in his harpy the other day i was abit shifty about it but thought ok if he wants to die (unless he's got ew setup Mad)

,but he came in a dominix i smelt it got out without problems and now he has the delightful reputation. Not to mention doin this with 20 other V members in local watching, i hope he was disiplined.
