The BugHunters are looking for a few good people to help with the testing of the new features for the next major expansion, as well as checking the bugreports submitted by the community.

Your commitment: we ask that you spend a few hours each week testing.

I hear you ask "Why should I give up my valuable Eve time?". Well, as a BugHunter, you will get to see all the new features before they arrive on TQ, and to play with those parts of the game you may not have available to you (How many of you have flown a Dreadnought, and activated a Jump Drive?). You may be able to question some of the devs directly about how the mechanics of Eve are supposed to work, and a few other fringe benefits too. (Please note, we get to play with the new ships, but another team deals with the actual balancing of these ships.)

How do you sign up? Well, this is the tricky bit. Rather than sort through thousands of applictions from the community, we want you to prove your value to us. We will be closely monitoring both the list of submitted bug reports, and the conversation in the #eve-chaos channel on the Coldfront IRC server. Those of you providing good bugreports, and being helpful and enthusiastic in IRC are likely to get invites to the BugHunters team.

So, do you enjoy whining on the forums about the bugs in the latest patch, or do you want to help stop them from being released?

“Over the next 2 weeks we will be closely monitoring both the list of submitted bug reports,”

The only problem with that is a lot of the bug reports seem to get lost and no one gets to read them. I sent in a lot of bug reports on gang assist modules and other subjects. But I was told by other bug hunters that after talking to various bug hunters and devs a lot of the reports did not make there way onto the list. Which is why most of the gang assit bugs never got fixed.

I am quite happy to help test the gang assist modules, shield extenders and passive shied tanking modules. I have sent in a lot of bug reports for major bugs. Perhaps you could look at my old bug reports to see I do put time into testing?

I don’t want to test everything but if you want someone to spend a lot of time testing gang assist /leadership style skills and ships, drones and passive shield tanking ships then I will put aside a few hours a week.

But for turrets, weapons and active tanking I will be rubbish at testing as I hardly use them.

someone told me about a few bugs with the gang assist modules. i checked on the test server and couldn't reproduce any of the bugs, which makes me think they have been fixed.

as regards the br's (bug reports) getting lost etc, there are a few BH and offen there are br's that come in, but other BH look at the them and process them. so I don't get to see them. so if a BH says he/she hasn't seen a br about an issue, it does not mean that it's been lost or deleted. it's most probably been processed by someone else.

Perhaps there was some miscommunication or misunderstanding between me and the other guy. If you get a min do you mind checking to see if the below has been fixed as I cannot log onto the test server. If possible could you confirm if the skill hitpoints bonus is a bug or is it meant to give a bonus. Also are the modules meant to turn off in warp.

Siege Warfare Specialist skill is missing the 2% shield hitpoint bonus while the Armored Warfare Specialist skill gets a 2% amour bonus. Not sure which is the bug it seems either both advanced leadership skills should get a 2% bonus or neither skill should.

Skirmish Warfare Link - Rapid Deployment has a typo in as it says it only works on Afterburners. But it works on MWD as well.

Information Warfare - Sensor Integrity seems to be bugged as the bonus is rounded to an Integer so you don’t see any change when you turn the module on and off. (Not tested this one my self)

Armoured Warefare - Damage Control & Armoured Warefare - Rapid Repair both say they effect Remote Armour Repairs but both don’t work. I assume the shield version of the module has the same bug on the shield modules but not checked yet due to skill training.

Another typo which is stopping a lot of people using the modules as they think the fitting costs are to high. The Description on battlecruisers says it gives a 90% decrease in gang assist module CPU need. Which is 500cpu per module more then a Battlecrusier could affectively use. When the modules fitted you get a 50 cpu usage for a 99% decrease in CPU. (now fixed)

This next one I am not sure if it’s a bug or not but it goes against the theme of the ships. Warfare Link Modules turn off when you warp. This means the gang assist ships have to work independently away from the main gang/fleet and you lose all bonus’s while redeploying. Surly a gang ship is meant to work during deployment and warp? Otherwise gang ships are working away from the gang.

Is this another one of these "You have to be 18 or older to be allowed, but we forgot to mention that" kinda things, like the last two times i applied to some form of volunteer work for EVE?

EDIT:
Serious question here, so without the sarcasm:

Will people under the age of 18 be considered?

“someone told me about a few bugs with the gang assist modules. i checked on the test server and couldn't reproduce any of the bugs, which makes me think they have been fixed.”

I just logged onto the test server build 3582 and the above bugs I posted are still there, perhaps they are not the same as the ones reported to you? I will repeat my testing once the new build it put back up. Do I need to resend another bug report?

Elve Sorrow it’s a shame you cannot join the bug hunters you did a lot on the tester server with me before. Perhaps if they let me join the bug hunters team and assuming it’s not against the rules. I can arrange to meet you on the test server for testing.

EDIT More bugs
Auto Targeting module not targeting anything

I am getting mixed results some times it never targets anything other times it target 1 or 2 targets and leaves everything else unlocked.

When 0km away from a Nebula and other none combat ships its sometimes locks onto that object. Bug report sent with screenshot.

I've tested the IGB a lot and I've reported many bugs through the bugreport system. But I also always updated a simple website I had with all the bugs on it. It was an easy way for myself to track what bugs I had reported and it gave me something to refer to from the forum posts about it.

With a website/page like that, people can never claim the bug report got lost and if it hasn't been fixed in your opinion, you can just go back to your own report and see if there's some way in which it get misinterpreted.

Hey, I'd be up for some bug hunting on the test server. What do you need checked out? Where should I start? And do you have a channel in the game that most people use to keep in touch?

Questions questions everywhere....

bugreporting is useless and very frustrating:
Why?
- no response
- missing change logs
- 'silent' changes

Sry.

Bug reporting is in-fact very useful.
Its alerts the Bughunters to both the presence of a bug, and also the frequency at which people are experiencing it.

Each and every bug report that players submit, is reviewed by a living breathing person. Steps are taken to attempt to reproduce the bug on the most recent version of the client/server code, and using the screenshots, reproduction steps and logserver attached by a player within a bug report a defect tracking entry is created.

The devlopers both programmers and QA then use this information to rectify the problem.

Bug reporting is not useless.

But it is very frustrating for sure. There is no possibility to get any reaction on BRs. We donīt know if the BR was a good one, or if it was moved to trash immediatly. There are often bugs, which are reported for months, but if you ask a Dev or bughunter they answer, that this bug isnīt known.

Ok, there are the rare situations, where you report a bug, and a few days after this the bug is gone from Sisi. But normally itīs a better way to convo a bughunter/dev directly than filing a BR. (but you need much more time for this) ugh

Perhaps CCP could create a second (bigger) division of bughunters, which have better access to information about bugs (except exploits). They wonīt have to spend as much time as the regular bughunters, but donīt have the powers of them. Perhaps they should also gain access to specialiced forum to discuss recent bugs.

Otherwise CCP could also upgrade their bugreporting system for everybody and allow bidirectional communication.

I Agree you submit a br and they just go into the "ether", altho, i'd be happy with being able to look at the bug i reported like you can with "my questions" and see a simple "reproduced", "waiting", "being looked at" box myself...

personally, i was quite revved up and keen to be a bh when i first read this post, but i lost interest after a while simply because you do never hear anything again..

bug reporting is a big part of the expanction of eve and keeping the player base happy.

reporting/recording bug cant just be done by the dev's and BH's, it has to get help from the comunity itsself.

If it was left down tot he Dev's and BH's we would still be running castor no dout.
So thanks to the comunity we are advancing quicker in turms of expanction.Very Happy

Many of the issues people talk about here is also a problem for me. I've reported quite a few bugs, but I've slowed down for a number of reasons:

- Absolutely no feedback on any report is given. This means that if a BH requires more information for a report to be useful, there is no way he can ask for such.
- No way to add information to an existing bugreport.
- Many, MANY, reports end up in what seems to be a black hole. Most of the issues I've reported (even more than once) are still not fixed.
The reply I get in #eve-chaos is to resubmit the bug reports. I can't understand how this will not lead to more work for the BHs as they will need to mark lots of reports as duplicates.

All these issues makes my motivation low when it comes to reporting bugs. I know many people feel the same, and it is a problem for CCP that this process works so badly.

Some simple measures could be implemented that would go a long way towards fixing these issues:

- Whenever you report a bug, assign a reference number to the report that the person reporting the bug can store for later reference.
- Make it possible for the BH/devs/QA to request more information about a bug. This can be a checkbox that is default off on the report itself, so a mail will go out to whoever reported the bug with a text the BH/.. can enter.
- Make a maildrop (eg. [email protected] where XXXXX is the report number) where additional information can be sent in. A link to add using the web would be even better.

If people that file bad reports and reports with missing information get a request for more information, this will improve the quality of the reports and it would be helpful for both players and CCP.

I have many years of experience in these areas and I know a system with some limited two-way information will benefit all persons involved in the process.

Why can't it be slightly more interactive ? Wouldn't hurt to pat people on the back for a good bug report, would encourage them to make more and make people who are helping make eve a better game feel appreciated..

Same with letting people know if their bug report sucks, so they can either improve their reports or stop sending in worthless ones that waste peoples time..

My main problem is that I would love to bughunt new stuff. Some hours a week? No problemo.
But its pretty hard to grasp in the dark for bugprone issues. Would be cool if the devs posted stuff they would like people to pound for errors, instead of just "the new stuff".

Especially as it is also pretty unclear what is on SiSi and what is not, if you ask me.

When people are saying bugreporting is useless, they are not referring to the actual usefulness of having it.

They are talking about the specific way its handled in this particular case.

Which could leave MANY things to be wished for. Tell us whats new in a patch - and people will POUND it. Over and over and over again. Trust me.

Aye, I have submitted bugs too, but the utter lack of feedback or interactivity of the bug reporting system leads to the feeling that what you do doesn't matter. To be effective, a bug reporting system should be:
--Searchable (be able to search for keywords to see if it is an acknowledged bug or not)
--Updatable (if you have additional information for a bug, you should be able to update the bug report)
--Interactive (if BH team needs additional help to try and figure out how to reproduce a particular bug, they should ask for it in the bug report, and list it in the unconfirmed bugs)
--Informative (There should be a list of Confirmed and Unconfirmed bugs, as well as the status of each bug (Researching Fix, Coding Fix, Fixed on Chaos, Fixed on SiSi, Release Candidate))

I got a million spare, i'll buy you a server thats capable of doing the job !

don't blame downloads, anyone in reality can rent a server at worst and place the download on it, the gameplan was to sort lag due to "drones" and excessive on screen activity, and voila .......

just roll it back, at least it worked then.

and dont blame the "test phase" as in now on launch, its been on a test server for god knows how long.

I thought guildwars was lagged to bits !

sorry for the winge, but we've been waiting all day !
