Hello, new player here.
I've been trying to read these forums for all sorts of interesting info, but seems I can't find anything on dreadnoughts. What are they, what do they do, what are they good for, etc? Is there a dreadnought faq somewhere around here?
Thanks! |

Dreadnoughts = big scary things, atleast according to eve-online.com database which i would reccomend you to use, there are all infos on dreads you need. And yes, they already fly ingame |

Dreads are currently the largest ships available in EVE. They are for destroying large installations and other Dreads. They are expensive and require a lot of effort to build. |

Okay, right.
So are they extremely expensive, since most talk on the ship forums seems to concentrate on battleships and t2 frigates and cruisers? Are there downsides to these huge ships? I've yet to see one ingame either.

They are meant to hit stationary... stations. They cannot really hit cruisers and struggle greatly against battleships. Their damage is really poor, worse than battleships, until it goes into Siege Mode (takes 10 minutes) and then it begin struggling to hit even dreadnoughts. They are not combat ships, they are siege weapons |

The Dreads are currently costing around 3,000,000,000 isk if i remember right. To be honest i wouldnt want to fly one since i guess i would die from boredom |

Also they can't jump on their own, they require at least one wing man who can fly to the destination system *in the pilots jump range* and set up a field to jump to. *the field shows up to everyone in system and appears on the world map* Also requires refined ice fuel to make its jumps. |

To jump, a second pilot needs to activate a Cynosural Field on his ship. The Dreadnought picks this up and jumps to it, assuming it's in range (skills and fuel dependant).
Cynosural Fields cannot be created in 0.5-1.0, however, so unless a Dreadnought is built there, there's no way in to those systems. |

Wow, thanks for all the answers, this is just what I was looking for! The item database doesn't exactly cover these things... Well, in a strange way this almost makes my want to fly one. With those downsides, there can't be that many of them around. |

You will need to train for a looooong time. Battleship l5, advanced ship command l5, large guns l5 and a few other assorted skills, and thats just to take it out of the hanger(!) |

Exactly. It's good to have a dream and a goal. |
