If you can keep your computer cool enough, getting a cheap card and overclocking it can be your best bet.. and can also be catastrophic if you don't know what you're doing.

But, you can pick up a GeForce 6600 for $100 (American) and overclock it and it will run almost identical to the GT version, which is $50+ more.

NVidia 5700LE 256MB, about $90 if you can find 'em.

www.pricewatch.com has them listed for about $94.

I run one in mine. Sure, it's a little old, but it's a 256mb, and it's pretty damned cheap, and stable to boot.

I had to upgrade my card to play BF2. I got a GeForce 6600GT and it runs great!!

I run 1280 x 1024 @ medium settings and the FPS is just fine.

Ever get the feeling that BF2 actually can run on older cards and EA just put in some coding to block those cards instead?

i think (cant remember for sure) there are some patches that allow it to run on geforce4 hardware.

I'd guess by far the best choice if you can afford it is a 6600GT. Its quite a bit faster than the x600 Pro, which isn't much more than a souped up 9600.

BF2 runs plenty good enough on a x600, i had a x600 (PCIe) fitted until last week and never had any probs. Got me a Geforce 7800GTX now (gloat, gloat).

Geforce 5500

Geforce 6600

don't go with PCI Express, Express always means less, stick with AGP 8x, AGP meaning "Advanced Graphics Port", meaning it's designed for video cards

and as far as your video cards sucking, it probly doesn't theres a very small handful of cards that will run BF2

for example i have a "Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 440, 64MB", the 64MB meets the min requirments (barely) but the card itself is not supported (don't worry i'm in the proccess of upgrading it now)

Huh?

PCI-E is the new standard for graphics ports. It isn't any faster than AGP to begin with--as AGP 4x is hardly fully used now, let alone 8x or PCI-E's 16x. However, AGP has already been phased out and is not being supported by either ATI or nVidia.

Obviously you need a motherboard supporting PCI-E. PCI-E's main advantage is that its full duplex and thus transfers full speed each way--allowing features like SLI to exist.

The Geforce 5500 is a piece of crap, and should not even be mentioned. Its a slightly overclocked FX5200--I'd take a TI200 over it. The 6600 non-GT is also a "slightly better" piece of crap. The best card for the price range is the 6600GT.
