He probably wasn't healthy. 50 hours, that's just 2 days. It said he took short naps also. For various reasons people stay awake for 2 days with short naps in between, usually in emergencies. I don't think it's normal for heart failure on 3 days.

It seems that excercise, poor diet, and perhaps a weak heart as well would be bigger contributers. I sometimes have trouble sleeping and so my sleep only turns to short naps, and that can last 2 days easy. I haven't died yet. Cool

I think it's 3 days without naps and little excercise when your organs risk failure. I'm not sure. I've only gone 3+ days once, because I had a business to run and it was crunch time for me. I'll never do that again.

well in my philosohpy class last year we were talking about weird things that the human mind does ... one thing being ppl who have stayed awake for like a week straight (experiment) without even any "micro-sleep" (basiclly a long blink were u fall asleep for a split second) .. sum of these ppl were commited to mental institutes becasue of the disturbing things there minds were creating out of reality, caused by extreme lack of sleep others came out with wierd storys of ppl with 3 knees (for example) but none died as for as i know

""micro-sleep" (basiclly a long blink were u fall asleep for a split second)"

So there's a name for that! I swear I've experienced that sometimes when I've been really tired. You kinda close your eyes, then open 'em and feel like you just woke up, very startling.

I imagine the man really gets into starcraft(which i belive he was playing).

Ever notice how your heart races a bit when youre playing games? Gets a lil intense.

That could have caused an abnormal ammount of stress.

Yup I get that in most classes or if on my break at work. Usually because of not getting enough sleep the night before.

My heart does that during pvp but thats just the body preparing for fight or flight and doesn't realise its not actually in any real danger.

That happens to me at work. Constantly. I'm talking like...every 3 minutes.

I'm nocturnal but work during the day. It's not really an ideal situation...

That's the whole reason PvP is fun!

I am sure that Darwin would award you himself were he around to do it...

I have done 40 hours straight gaming, and only because of poor food and drink choice was it a bad thing.

Has anyone else ever slept-driven for as long as 20 minutes or more?

I left the party at the University of Utah and remember leaving after 40 hours of straight gaming, caffeine and pizza. I also remember arriving at home and having time and energy to remove my 150 lbs of computer and monitor from the backseat and carry it inside. (2 trips of course)

The ENTIRE TRIP, all 25 minutes along I-15 is gone from my memory.

How this man died is not likely to be because of the time spent at the game, but more likely a fluke of nature and a bad set of nutrition for the energy a Korean puts into StarCraft.

I played everquest for 4 years. During that time I remember playing for 32 hours straight on a number of occasions. Grinding exp, smoking cigarette's and drinking coke.. only leaving the computer to use the bathroom and get more liquid. It was crazy.

Seriously doubt it was the 50 hours that killed him, I've done way more. A combination of intense stress ( which can happen with competetive games ) and lack of sleep and health, is probably enough though.
