Are these things any good at belt piracy? I was thinking a bunch of artillery, mwd, webber, scambler, 100mm plates in a thrasher. any input would be appreciated.

I dont know personally, but one time i saw some 3 snigg guys all in dessy's. they have to make a great small fleet together will all those frig guns, able to hit soo much % of the time. More so if you have lots of skills. a thrasher with a mwd is VERY fast btw, i have tried to get an outlaw who uses no instas to move, but a thrasher with mwd and its impossible to get him Sad

1v1 destroyer = space coffin

in a gang u can pwn a lot

idea for thrasher gang - all ships have :-
mwd, web, scram, then as many 280mm and gyros as u can fit

talking out of experience i must say that thrasher can kill an AF and any close range ceptor 1on1 if the conditions are right

a corp m8 lost vs i think it was an blaster ishkur which ended up deep into structure thing is though he has no t2 guns or nothing so i figure if he had those he would have won

good setup for piracy is

7x t2 200mm auto's 1x small nos
1x mwd 1x webbie 1x scrambler/disruptor
1x 400mm plate 1x t2 small armor rep

just watch out for long range ceptors though u can try to "push" those into webbie range
and last but not least its fun killing a 25mill AF with this setup Laughing

Ok, so 1v1 a destroyer isn't of much use. What about against other destroyers? Any good or should I just save up for a cruiser?

Okay, so aside from support in gangs, what are destroyers actually good for?

AHhhH! It's PsyBoRG who i've chased after a couple of times. Even with instas he gets away from me Sad . As for what these are good for? KILLING FRIGS! with high lvl of motion prediction losing the firing speed won't matter when you have 7 t2 guns on your side.

Destroyer Skill Bonus: 7.5% Bonus to Small <---- you can hit anything, easily
Hybrid Turret tracking speed

and 10% bonus
to Small Hybrid Turret falloff per level <------ You can outrange them (using rails or the equiv.)

Like Shaz said, anti-frigate sniping all the way. I've also found that they're useful as armed cargo carriers, fast enough to not be a total sitting duck especially if you fit a AB or MWD, and cheap enough to be easily replacable if you or your corp are low on funds.

I pride myself on being a rare king of destroyer pilots, with a little bit of flying skills and planning I can take down those pesky assault frigs and blackbirds. And in one case a brutix in a mining set up.Laughing

Just know your limits and don't try and take out that deimos "that couldn't possibly hit you at this range."

TBH havent flown a destroyer yet but was well impressed with citZno's thrasher when we fought him killed a few of us,was fast and at close range was deadly am now thinking of getting one myself.

They are decent ships that are underratted, but they work best in groups.

i actually found them to be quite the safespot scanners, for a dude who cant fly a CVops, you can fit a probe launcher and an MWD with a couple of CPU's on low (on a catalyst anyway) im not so sure about the other destroyers, ill have a look and toy up/experiment etc, but im sure you could whip a 20k scram on easy and find those pesky carebear osprey safespots with minimal risk. (like there is against an osprey anyway, heh)

also they have about 450 cargo, i use them as mini-haulers with MWDs on for hauling large-ish stuff around. they make nice ammo runners through 0.0, cos they can escape battleships, and those ceptors that ice the indy tend to not take on a destroyer. it gives the nooby pirate-wannabe's something to fly that can actually be slightly useful.

overall, im with the side that thinks they arent actually useless, although they arent exactly uber-useful.

at least they look cool.
