This is a strange one. I can't tell yet if it's Eve or a system error, though checking through the registry I can't find anything obvious.

Basically ALT-F5 to activate med slot 5 doesn't work, all that happens is that my screen blinks for a second or so.

All the other hotkeys work fine, it's just this one.

I tried remapping it to another combination which works, remapped it back to ALT-F5 and it don't.

Anyone have any ideas on where to look next?

What he said... do the keys themselves work?

The keys physically work, I've tried a seperate keyboard just in case.

I get the same thing where ever I hit alt-f5

Is it a laptop?, sometimes the F5 key is linked to Toggle screen output, although normally there's a seperate Function key rather than alt.

No it's a desktop, though I suspect you're on the right track.

I've checked the bios, nothing there and ran Hotkey Detective which doesn't pick it up. However if I start XP in safe mode it is then disabled, so I'm suspecting that it's something loaded with one of the drivers (possibly the ATI ones).

FIXED

It's a registry problem as follows:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATI Technologies\Desktop
\{C61F8B38-8C2C-4037-8847-CA88742FFDAF}
\Profiles\Schemes\Environment\Switchamongstdisplays

Changing the Hotkey value to 0 cures the problem (or you can change it to another keypress sequence if you find the hex/dec number to apply.

The key rewrites itself if you delete it, but changing the value works.

WARNING FOR COMPUTER NOOBS:

If you play around with the registry you can break the operating system and your computer will not operate without reinstalling the O/S.

ALWAYS take a backup of the registry BEFORE changing it and DON'T muck about with it unless you have a good idea of what you're doing.
