Cannot use T2 Blasters yet (soon™), so the following, thoughts?

5x Modal Mega Neutrons
1x Modal Mega Ion (or Electron if rest of setup won't fit)
2x Rocket Launchers (Defenders)

1x 100mn MWD II
2x Tracking Disruptors (Named)
1x 20km Scrambler (Named)

7x Tech II Damage Mods

No tank, pure gank, designed for 1v1s (vs BS), or possibly 1v2s depending on the shiptypes involved.

Thoughts? Improvements?

Would two tracking disrupters make a noticable difference when ~10km from another ship? Granted I'm assuming BSvBS.

Raven = trouble.

You of all people should know that, Phoenus. Cool

Should work well enough on Min/amarr and sniperthrons, though.

The tracking disruptors and deffenders are pointless.

I always liked this setup:

5x Nuetron Blasters
2x Heavy Nos
1x Heavy Nuet

1x 100MN MWD
1x Heavy Cap Booster
1x Scrambler
1x Webber

1x Large Named Rep
1x Medium T2 Rep
3x Hardener
2x Magnetic Stab 2

I disagree, I've had a few good experiences with the setup below - and on the 3 occassions I've engaged the raven from 20-22km, he's died without me losing armor.

Hmm, well, the most important part of the Blasterthron in PvP is it's drones. I tend to use eleven heavy drones on my Blasterthrons at all times, or I really don't expect to live very long:
10x Berserker (mainly to get them back into bay again at all) and 1x Helios.

Use modal electrons and two large accos, hardeners and damage mods.

Maybe 1 large nos also..

An Armageddon can output much higher damage per second at much farther range with an equivalent tank. Mega Pulse rivals Neutrons in damage, this means that Electrons will find themselves considerably lacking compared to even Dual Heavy Pulse (considering one more damage mod).

Thus you need to go all-out damage when it comes to Blasterthrons or you need to fit Railguns. The middle way option of fitting a tank actually means training Amarr and Pulse Lasers in order to get maximum efficiency (this has the side benefit of increasing your optimal range by a factor of 8).

The main goals when creating the setup I mentioned at the top of this thread was something that could obliterate any non-Jamming BS at a starting range of around 20-22km.

With the setup above, and the skills I have - my Modal Neutrons could hit from around 18km out, and hit well.

The tracking disruptors are great vs. turret based ships - even against the likes of a Gankgeddon, it reduces their DPS enough for you to get into range of your guns. Same with close-range Tempests. With Ravens? Not sure how the defenders work against the new Missile speeds.

Last time I used this (was pre-patch), I fought a Raven - started at 21km, by the time I passed 14km (one burst of the MWD), he was dead, and I was on 20% shields.

It is pure gank, but if you can get ontop of any BS (when I say ontop, I mean inside 20km), tanked, or untanked, the setup will make really short work of it.

Wow. A cap battery loaded with charges. A setup that requires 8 low slots. Tracking disruptors. Hitting well at 18km? Modal Ions?

I'm staying far away from these threads from now on. Neutral

edit: eleven drones?! Shocked

You won't find that poenious. Starting at 20-22k both a ac tempest and a geddon will own you. 9 times out of 10 :)

As the man above me said, Blasterthrons are uber tricky to run, and are also highly dependent on, well, luck. If you manage to pop out of warp up close on another BS, then yes, he can kiss his a** goodbye. Also, a cap injector is almost a must, as with Neutrons your cap will drain like mad if you are also MWDing in to your target. IMO, the Blasterthron is most effective when working in a team with a Covert Ops ship, for obvious reasons.

You should have read Ithildin's post right the way through ;) Agreed on the other points though.

Personally I use full damage gankathron + covert ops most of the time, but it's not got the same finesse as a tanked setup, nor the same flexibility and durability.

This setup is known as "win" when it comes to gankathrons with blasters:
ArrowHigh
7*Model Neutrons
ArrowMedium
Electrosomething cap injector
100mn MWD
Web
Scram
ArrowLows
7* t2 Damage Mods

Around 1000 dps without counting the damage from drones.

Except the fact that the gankageddon you just came out of warp 20km away, will start hitting you first, from further away, for the same amount of damage.

Gotta love those ships.

You can change Neutrons for tech 2 Ions, gets about the same dps with tracking boost. And they sound cooler when they shoot.

great setup, that will get ****d by a blaster ranis/blaster rax/blaster deimos or any other close range ship as u dont have a web

I wouldnt be so sure about that actually. With a cap injector you can outtank most stuff and still deal a lot of damage. Yes a gankageddon at 20km will rip u a new one, gank or tank but we all the know ganka is a still a bit meh cos of the range advantage and blaster like damage (yeah it doesnt have the tracking but at 20km it dont matter). A tank is NOT useless on a blasterthron at all (just watch the DNA vids for proof)

uhg.

7x T2 Electrons
1x Lif MWD, 1x Cap 800 Injector (7 Cap 800's in bay), 1x 20km Scrambler (Named Best), 1x Lang webby (CPU)

1x Large Acco ( I am a cheapo and use Polorized :P), 3x N-Type Hardners kin,therm,explo, 2x Stabs 1x T2 Damage mod.

If you are not a loner like me drop the stabs and fit 3x mods, you kill most things and maybe T2 Neutron as your ROF and Mode with skills is enough if you can sit right ontop and orbit him whilst you tank with Drones he will have issues after 10 seconds :], hang about within 5 km and you loose

For small engagements without support, a tank is pretty critical on a blasterthron, for the quite simple reason that a blasterthrons only real advantage is tracking, which means closing as fast as possible, and taking damage for a while. You don't need a ubertank, but you need enough to be able to get under other peoples tracking... tracking disruptors help, but not on the approach unless you make a very nasty approach vector, which does indeed prevent damage but delays your ability to web, scramble and nos to the point that a tank and fast approach are way more effective in getting the kill. IMHO naturally
