Need clarification: I had just killed 5 NPC pirates when all of a sudden another ship warped into the area and started to scoop up the containers I was collecting. He got 3 out of the 5 and I sort of got ****ed off. I had an equal ship or better and was at a 0.6 asteroid belt when I decided to attack him. All of a sudden I found myself in a pod. My e-mail said it was Concord who delivered the final blow. I saw no police or sentry guns around so what actually happened????

probably a bit of lag, it isn't unusual that 30 concord ships fly into the belt. And you might already been dead before they showed up on your screen.

Anyway attacking anyone in 0.5 and higher will result in you getting concordokkend. Then you will still have the 20 minute agression timer, so you better not undock within those 20 minutes with another ship, or it will get blown up again.

Logging off doesn't cheat the timer, it stops and resumes when you log back on.

In any system with a security rating of 0.5 or above if you attack anyone that your corporationois not at war with, then Concord will warp in and kill you. Chances are they warped in and shot you so fast you didn't see them!

Loot thieves in high sec systems are unfortunatly just 'one of those things' that you get used to.

Well I was in 0.6 so that may very well be what happened. It happened so fast I didnt know what the heck happened. I thought if no concord ships were around it was ok to try and zap someone. The lessons of the NOOB I guess. Neutral

See decent people understand "I didn't earn it, it's not mine", unfortunately there is a segment of people who enjoy looking for ways to be jerks in the game and pass it off as I'm 'roleplaying'. A certain amount of paranoia and narcissm is mandatory for eve.

Isn't there a new rule on the way that will allow to attack people who steal containers without Concord to come ?

I think I read that somewhere...

I'm finding myself wondering whether or not you got the thief. Did you get the rat-b4st4rd?

Oh there I found it, it was an interview of Nathan on this fan site :

Nathan : We have planned to implement that if a player jettisons a container and somebody "steals" from that container, the owner is allowed to shoot the thief. CONCORD will not show up to shoot the thief, but it will not engage the miner if he shoots at the thief.

That's not implemented yet, and may be low on the devs' list of features.

Plus, they say Concord will not show up to shoot at the thief, nor will it attack the miner who opens fire, now they don't say what will Concord do if the thief shoots back at the miner he he he...

So yes it is safe to assume this is still in early development stage...

Why can't they implement a named can?
Alot of other MMORPG's work like this:
You kill something, it drops a container (whether it's a body or a can doesn't matter). On viewing the container it says what it's from (player, rat etc) and who has looting rights. Then only the named one can loot. The one doing the most damage gets looting rights (NOT who made the kill), and when forming a gang you can set several rules for looting.
Problem solved...Now if only it would be on the Dev's list lol, preferably higher then lower.

(ps. copying this idea to the suggestions forum too...).

One of the things I like about eve is that it doesn't have to do the typical MMOG thing of unrealistic restrictions/actions to make the game work. Why you respawn when you die in this game is explained, your "body" doesn't just disapear when you log out etc. It all works as you would expect it to work were EVE a real world.

The kind of loot restriction you are suggesting seems artificial in comparison. It doesn't have the elegance that the rest of the game just oozes...

I hope they improve it a bit, allowing anyone in the miner's gang to shoot the looter.

mining in a jet can is still a known exploit as CCP stated years ago, nobody will be banned from doing it, but nobody will be punished for stealing the content either.

it's the old 'just use secured cans' story..

and for Lonewolf 66, **** happens, perhaps one day you warp to an asteroid field with abondoned cans lying around (like alot in 0.0), just grab them

Nope....I got 2 shots off and I was wiper out by Concord. Serves me right. Im new so I dont know all the ins and outs of where and when you can attack people. But I guess I learned real quick. Neutral

I was mining earlier in 0.5 space myself. Somebody had left dozens and dozens of cans everywhere. But I couldnt see any PCs near me. I take it as a sign that a game has a healthy playerbase if that kind of trust can be used.

But even though not long later I was dropping my own cans, I do have to wonder why a player wouldnt simply make an alt and go around stealing people's cans. It should definately flag you as a thief or pvper if you breach another player's can.

Course, for all I know. The guy who mined all that stuff may've died and the cans sat out there until they rusted to death. I certainly didnt see anyone else in the 50mins I was there.

Most of the cans you saw were probably secure cargo containers which are password protected unlike jet cans.

Loot cans are fair game IMHO. It is somewhat rude to loot right in front of another player, but if you show up at an asteroid belt and no one else is around and there are 10 cargo containers with stuff in em, then it's open to anyone.

For example if I show up at an asteroid belt and there's a cargo container there I check it most of the time. If there is something in it, maybe a 250 rail for instance, I take it. Unless someone puts a name on it or it's secure it's free for the taking. Who knows if the owner is ever coming back for it. I don't pick up loot sometimes. Let whomever wants it, have it.

When the icon says "Cargo Container" then its an NPC drop. When it says "Scoundrelus's Ore" then its a player can which is secure and touching it means you die.Razz

this would actually be a bad thing as written, I have many times taken my covetor mining barge into a new system and just told new players to take what they want as fast as they can.... someone less nice may offer this and shoot them as they take it.

Risk a barge? Civvy weapons CAN do some damage.
