I recently heard of a possible bug - a player with a negative security rating (and a bounty) will hang outside a station in a frigate, target an incoming ship and open fire.
The other person will destroy the bountied player - but will in turn get smashed by sentry guns outside the station. The destroyed pirate then flies out of the station in a ship and picks up all the loot.

Someone in our home system was flying around in a capsule with a -9.2 rating and a small bounty but nobody wanted to just destroy him because we were unsure whether podding this guy near a station would get us a sec hit or sentry attack.

It was my impression that you suffered NO penalty for engaging combat with a player who has a bounty nevermind responding to an attack.

Whats going on?

Unless there is a bug in the current build, it is perfectly safe to pod a player with a security rating of -9,2. Anything above -5,0 and you can kill them with impunity.

Edit: Forgot that maybe faction will kick in here, if he belongs to the faction owning the sentry guns, that might cause it.
