I've just recently started using Med weapons on my cruiser and I'm a bit disappointed. Mostly because my small weapons are doing a lot more damage. I have a Med Heavy Pulse laser with a damage multiplier of 1.5. Base damage is supposed to be 6 EM and 6 Thermal. But, when I put a crystal in it (in this case Microwave) the damage changes to 8 EM and 2 Thermal. This is the same damage as the crystal. What happened to the base damage? Did it get replaced by the crystal's or is it enhancing the damage like crystals do for the smalls? All I know is that my small energy weapons do more damage at the same gunnery level as the Medium, with the same type of crystal installed. I would have thought that the Damage of the Medium weapons would have been better or equal to the smalls as the base damage is double the smalls base. Is this working normally or is there a bug from the last patch?

crystals replace damage, they do not add damage. However your crystal is a bit strange with 8-2 damage :)

Ok, if they replace, why do the small lasers keep their base damage when I add a crystal? The range gets changed on the smalls based on the range bonus, but I've never seen the damage change.

Hawk, get yourself some medium Heavy Beam Lasers (modulated preferebly but bog standard work fine) and fit some radio crystals.

Then get some decent heatsinks... Stamped are good to start...

My damage mod with 4 stamped heatsink is 4. something... with Medium Energy lvl 4 and I can take down Juggernauts fine with a little bit of tactical play.

Laser utterly rule 0.0 systems as you dont even have to worry about ammo... your cargo hold is just for stashing the loot.

Lasers are also good for swapping crystals depending on range.

The crystal "replaces" the damage on the small lasers.

IIRC the small radio is 8 EM, the microwave is 6 EM 1 Thrm and the Infrared is 4 EM 2 Therm. Base damage with no crystal is 3 EM 3 Therm for small and 6/6 for medium. The Medium Microwave should be 12 EM 2 Therm.

Med Heavy Pulse?

there is none, it's either Medium (which can be small) or Heavy which is Medium

Sounds to me like you were using a Medium laser (which was actually small)

Speaking of which, anyone know the current trade price of a heavy modulated beam laser?

You're SURE they replace it? When I look in the stats of my laser I see as well it's basic damage as those of the crystal.

The Heavy pulse is a waste. The Heavy Modulated now is worth millions. I have one and I love it more than anything.
