In the early stages of Eve, I had run-ins with a few people (you know who you are) and I planned at that point that I would one day see them in space when I was more mature in my abilities. Those days hopefully will be arriving soon where I can go head to head with them with dignity and come out the winner.

However, maybe I can't do that now with these new rules. If I wanted to attack before, the way I understood it was that I just had to see someone I wanted revenge on in .50 or lower numbered areas; and I was free to egage in combat with the other player. No interference with the cops/navy/protectors. Now, if I get the game mechanics, I will have to attack in 0.0 space in order not to be immediately in trouble with the care bear police. So if the other player never goes to 0.0, I will never get revenge in Eve space.

Is this right? You no longer start a fight in Eve space at all with these new sentry guns and increased cops patrolling?

I doubt some of the folks I ran into earlier would come down to 0.0 if asked politely, and they don't have a security where I can put a bounty on them; so I am not able to seek revenge on those who have it coming to them?

So, as of today (July 8th, 2003), I am not allowed to attack anyone in Eve protected space without the cops coming after me and taking a major/minor security hit?

One last thing, is it true that if you declare war on a corporation, the other corporation has to accept the invitation for the fight? I know it sounds silly, but I read it here somewhere, and just in case it was true, I wanted to know. I know, you shouldn't listen to rumours, but with this game, it just might be true. :-)

That's right, if you start a fight with anyone in non 0.0 space, you'll take a security hit and the cops will come after you.

edit: and the sentry guns will begin firing.

If you declare war on a coroporation, they don't have to accept, you're not asking them for war, you're telling them such. But it takes 48 hours to make the war active.

Keep in mind that if the character(s) you have "business" with are lower than -5.0 in security status, you may attack them anywhere at anytime.

Good Luck. ;)

Wait...getting somewhat conflicting answers here...

If I attack another player, in say, a 0.3 or 0.4 system, in an area w/o sentry guns (i.e. asteroid fields), the cops are gonna come after me?

All the people complaining about getting sec hits in 0.0 space must not be in absolute zero space. Just yesterday my brother and I attacked someone we were not at war with in a 0.0 system RIGHT NEXT to a station. No sec hit, no station guns, but the guy did manage to dock before we could blow him up :P

You might want to right click info on any 0.0 space you plan on shooting somebody in. Perhaps it's actually something like 0.008. Still though, that's no place for cops in my opinion.

That accept war thing is on the test server for the next patch. Chaos/Test/Dev server is down at the moment. You'll have to go see if it's still like that when the server comes up.
