Hi there.

I'm relatively new to the world of EVE, but fancy trying my hand at trading.

Does anyone have any tips or info about trading, especially the kinds of goods I should consider hauling, routes etc

The best advice is Buy Low, Sell High.
Beyond that, you are on your own.

Go to a system that links 2 (or more) Regions. Go to a Station in Region A, write down prices (sell/demand). Go to Station in Region b, write down prices. Etc. for other Regions.

Compare lowest vs highest and Bob's your uncle... Just remember: 'It takes money to make money'.

Yes trading can be lucrative, but u need industrial ship and lot's of money to do it, otherwise stick to pirate hunting or mining.

My recommendations is : Buy low in a low sec area, sell high in empire space. Ofcource you risk beeing podded by PC-pirates or NPC pirates in 0.0 systems.

Make sure your clone contract is high enough..

just trade robotics, 800k per 5 jumps, but you need a 15mil capital first of course.

but the good side is NO RISK.

once you buy the robotics its just a matter of time! no risk what so ever! no pirates, no blockades.

some smart guy is making over 20-30million every day (maybe more) by buying all the robotics in a region, i witnessed this myself.

So isk sucks, use the new currency = megacyte! ;)

The first part of trading is knowing very well how to use the Market tool from the stations.

Once you will have mastered that part, how to find trade routes and doing them will look evident to you.

I made a fairly complete explanation of trading in the old forums when most people were whinging that you couldn't make money trading, but they seem to have deleted it so what follows is a brief summary.

1. Scout out your routes carefully, good starter trader commodities are spirits and antibiotics. The best commonly found one is robotics, although there are others that occasionally give a similar profit margin.

2. Best routes are usually inter-region routes (although intra-region ones can be effective, if you're either going for the low end ones such as spirits or are willing to accept a lower profit per run). Look for ones that are close to the borders. The new highways mean most routes are much shorter than before (even ones outside of empire space).

3. This bit is important - in the market window make sure you have 'show active only' turned off. Show active only in fact only shows items which are for sale in that region - and it is items where there is a demand but nothing for sale that have the highest profits. This is where most beginners go wrong.

4. Plot your route, if the map shows suspicious pod or ship kill hotspots either go around by manually setting waypoints or make sure you are going at 1000m/s or faster (if you go for the latter option, do not under any circumstances go AFK :-) ). It is not necessary to use MWD to do this if your skills and equipment are good enough.

5. If you don't have enough cash to fill your hold you need a pal that you trust *completely*. Pool all your money and start the run. On sale transfer all your money to your pal, including all the profits. By the time you reach the sale point the person doing the first run should have finished getting back to the buy point. This will rapidly get your profits per run up - when I first did this I went from 30K to 20M in a day (and no it wasn't recently). At the end split all the money 50-50 or whatever suits you.

6. Don't flog a dead horse - if you can't find any viable trade routes swap to whatever else you like doing, but whenever you dock check the markets. It helps if you regularly move around the galaxy. Currently I mostly go exploring (in my indi as it's the fastest disposable item) which fits in really nicely with trading. In fact I may stop trading eventually as BM swapping is much more profitable and has zero risk.
