I'm on the verge of buying one of these but before I do so I thought it prudent to speak to the wise :)

So let me know from your experince which of these is the best. I have enough to buy a Scythe and maybe something higher but should I be saving my pennies for the more expensive ships?

I know this is a personal choice but I want to gather all the advice I can before making a decision.

Also, is it worth looking at the trade channel for a ship? Is this a reliable method? Is the price greatly reduced ?

Thanks

I hear from a lot of people that use them that Scythe is a good little entry-level cruiser. It will do you well for mining, fighting, trading.

Buying it will most likely at least allow you to take on other bigger-better loot methods to make cash, especially if you are grouped.

That in itself should help develop the cash you need to get another ship, and you can always sell the Scythe afterwards.

To some extent it depends how you're making your money at the moment.

If you're mining and using an indy to transport, a low-end cruiser represents an improvement in productivity of maybe 30-40%. If it's taken you this long to save up for a low-end cruiser, it's not going to pay for itself through mining quickly enough - save up for a better model.

If you're doing agent missions, your ship makes hardly any difference to your cash flow - unless you fit a MWD to get through them quicker.

If, on the other hand, most of your money comes from killing pirates, a low-end cruiser represents a huge increase in your earning power. You'll kill tougher pirates quicker and have roughly 3 times the cargo space for loot over a heavy frigate. Make sure you have a reliable and preferably cheap source of the right ammo for your new guns though.
