This is a warning to anyone else that may fall victim to this exploit.

Here is the story behind this warning:

I was mining earlier today, and one of my fellow corporation members suggested I try agent missions instead of mining as a source of income. With this suggestion I grab my BadgerMKII and head for the Todaki School of Applied Knowledge. This being where my agent is located. I enter the School's airspace and tell my ship to dock. While attempting the dock a player named TOBSTA locked onto me. Without so much as touching the controls, my security dropped to a -0.0 and the CONCORD navy and school defenses open up on my industrial ship.

From initial lock-on to destruction of my ship was about 15 seconds.

My ship is destroyed, and my podd continues the original auto-pilot journey to the docking bay. Heres the real kicker. After I am stripped of the majority of what I owned, and exit the station with my newly acquired Ibis, TOBAS locks onto me again. I try to start a conversation to ask the player to quit destroying my ships, and leave me be. CSPA announces the player is offline even though he has a lock on me.

Here are clips of the few screenshots that I got during the attack. http://www.weatherlight.250x.com/attack.html (Please forgive the pop-up ads)

I hope that noone else gets maimed by the CONCORD exploit. Thank you, that is all.

This is what happens when people whine because they want an autonomous law enforcement system.

A computer is only as smart as the people it was created for. That explains why Concorde acts so ******ed.

Edit. I didn't look at the SS :) ( there are alot of popups for it )

He's still yellow. That just means threat not a lock. If he had locked you he would be red like all the concord guys :P

HAHAHAHA!!!! They didn't even target you! Yellow means low security. That's pretty funny though. Learned your lesson I guess. Sucks to be a noob some days. Next time don't shoot first and ask questions later.

Yellow, means the other person right clicked on you and selected INFO. When someone selects LOCK instead then you see an Orange icon.

I must admit it I warped away v.fast the first time I got a threat window with a yellow icon.

Unless you fired on him first, why would the cops go after you?

"Yellow, means the other person right clicked on you and selected INFO."

Wonder who told you this crap. Yellow means that the other is a possible danger either because he has a negative sec rating or his standings to you or your corp are negative.

Yellow just means the person is a threat. (ie. someone to keep a suspicious eye on)

Selecting info on someone doesn't cause them to see you as a threat. AFAIK it only occurs if the person has a negative security rating and/or you have moved the slider to the left in that char's 'info' screen.

Orange means he's locked you.
Red means he's shooting you.

The above posters have got it right, lol, I still remember me flaming some guy with a neg sec rating in beta for locking on me, rofl, not often a computer game makes me blush :P

However, the main point is, never ever fire your gun in a high sec system unless fired upon first. :)

Yeah, players were so much better at policing themselves. Well I suppose if I were a pirate I too would prefer my actions to go ignored and unchecked too. Quit your whining already. You picked your course, and you should have known it'd have consequences.

As for the original guy, I don't see where he mentioned firing on the guy. Just this guy locked on to his ship, and this somehow caused the cops to fire on him. Course if he did shoot first, it's his own fault. Otherwise, this could be a problem.

This is disturbing news if if what you say is true ...

* Yellow = Low security guy
* Orange = You are Locked / scanning your cargo etc
* Red = Target fires on you

However , you state that only by beeng close to you and having a low seclevel (yellow) he managed to get you blown up?

You didnt open fire on him? or do anything else who migth be taken as an offence (Web or warpscramble etc)

Edit: By taking INFO on anyone doesnt trigger any response or popup ..

What was your faction standing like with the owners of the station? CONCORD rating pre-attack? Attacked any other players in the last 15 min?

The yellow threat warning may be a red herring - it could be something else in your security profile that caused the attack...

And as stated above, yellow is effectively just a warning that the player has a low sec rating standing with CONCORD, not that they are firing on you (or even locked)

Maybe the sound we get when a yellow target pops up should be a little more like a warning and a little less like danger will robinson.

Know what I mean. It sounds just like when someone red is in the area. Made me panic and attack the first time I heard it also. Even know my nerves twitch at the sound.

"Without so much as touching the controls, my security dropped to a -0.0 and the CONCORD navy and school defenses open up on my industrial ship"

To those that called him a noob etc for firing first..Please read before posting. I would say from his statement above that he 'didnt' fire.

This really leaves only one possiblity - as Eldariel said it must be due to his faction standing with the station owners....they attacked him and it just so happened that someone with a lower security rating was in the vacinity, but offline...hence the 'Red Herring' threat alert just before the attack.

well thats my guess as well anyway...

Players have been doing a good job since the exploits (Canlag) certain griefers use have been fixed, and weapon effectiveness has been toned down.

All these stupid sentry and police changes were made as a reaction to a bunch of exploiters. Instead CCP could have fixed the exploits (Actually, at this point they have fixed them or at least worked around them.) and players would have solved the problem.

Cool. Everyone except the original poster are complete morons.

He shot first. We all know he shot first. The only ones who are morons are people who don't think he shot. I bet that ship with the low security didn't even have a pilot. I bet it was a noobie ship just floating there.

Ok, I was in the area around the same time as this happened, and from the smack and laughter in the local channel, here's what happened:

- The person (Dredd of InfiniCorp) was driving a MOA, not an indy.
- He fired on a newbie ship floating outside a station, dunno if a threat came up or not
- He lost his MOA in 15 secs flat.
- He proceeded to talk smack in the local channel where people were handing him the Darwin Award.

If this is not the same incident, I'm sorry :-)

i suspect weatherlight has got low enough sec rating to get shot just by entering a high sec area....

Don't know what happened with the original poster because did not see it but I was in Takodi right after it happened. I went in and out of the station several times and got the yellow threat near warning from Tobsta and that was it.

It's an unfortunate bug in the game that shows people ships or pods floating around station when they are either offline or in another system. There are some persistent pods of one of the members of my corp that float around 1 particular station, they are always there, regardless of whether he is online and somewhere else or offline. I have also seen people shoot at these quite obviously bugged ships or pods in higher sec systems and suffer the wrath of CONCORD for thier "little experiment". The lesson learned is always check the security rating off someone that show in your threat window, I belive that if they have a rating of less than -0.4 they fair game without the risk of inciting police action, regardless of the security rating of the system.

Simple rule is don't fire unless fired upon.

if TOBSTA was in a shuttle.. then that could explain it.

I think, possibly... that simply targetting a shuttle means an imidiate -0.1 sec-rating hit.

and since the default-setting is to autotarget back atleast 1 ship, if it targets you.. well there you go.

I haven't gone ahead and really checked on that yet...
makes sense though. in a weird-arse way =^_^=

and don't ask me why it's yellow and not orange.

LIES

targetting shuttles is not an offence, you're allowed to target them all you want. dont make up new rules :)

People just LOVE to scream "SPLOIT!!!" when they loose their ships and its their own fault.

This is not a bug or anything. Its just a misrepresented situation.

thanks for this thread...it really made me laugh.

just to clarify....

yellow = the person has a sec status below 0
orange = they targeted you
red = get your newbie ship outta there! they're firing!!!!

"I belive that if they have a rating of less than -0.4 they fair game without the risk of inciting police action, regardless of the security rating of the system. "

Sadly, it's -5.0.

And thanks to the new agent faction reset bug, pirates can pod all they want, and run an L1 agent mission to reset themselves back to -2.0.

I don't claim to not be wrong.

sorry for uttering me mind. :P

other things I've seen happen indicated that it may have been the case.
