Hi how the hell do you get round npc pirates with missiles in a thorax?

Ive moved to caldari systems looking for certain loot, and jees its hard work im getting ripped apart from missile attacks, any way to counteract this without having missile slots myself?
Preferably not smartbombs as they seem a little power hungry.

I use a micro smartbomb on my Thorax. Works a treat in dealing with missiles.. just have to be careful of splash damage and of any drones nearby.

The way I deal with the merlins and kestrels in caldari space with my thorax is out ranging them. If you use 250mm hybrids you can sit out about 20km away and nail them. Drones work at this range as well. Just dont send your drones at cruisers that aren't targetting you because they'll be happy to target something. If you use the keep at range option and are moving at a decent speed the missiles will blow up before they reach you. Also, working on shield management skill and having a medium shield extender can soak a lot of hits.

use a small smartbomb, micro one range is too low.

smartbombs aren't lost when you use them, like missiles. They're energy pulse weapons, each shot uses capacitor, but doesn't take any ammo or anything.

Drones sometimes intercept missiles but only if you keep a couple near you and don't give them orders. They will intercept the missiles on thier own initiative. They don't get them all though but in certain scenarios they are better than wasting your precious capacitor on smartbombs.

I'm beginning to think you're better off mounting another gun, taking them down quicker, and using the cap from the smartbombs to boost shields.

The reason I say that is because you really need two smart bombs used in a ripple effect, and even then you only get 70% at most. And they are boodly expensive to use in terms of cap, much better with two shield boosters and another gun.

I saw mention of a countermeasure module awhile back, which would be ace but I've never seen one

I use both a general shield booster and one of those boosters that add 70% more shield resistance against explosive damage. That seems to cut off most of the heavy missile damage.

Not a strategy that will always work by itself, but it can augment other strategies.

Best module I've found to use against missiles on a thorax: auto targeting system. Yes, one of these nifty hi-slot modules will, when activated, target a missile for you. All you need to do is then activate a gun when you have the missile locked and down it goes. Quite nifty, eh?

If you're in a thorax, then just take the missile hits.

In the case of the pirates that use heavy missiles, watch when they hit to see what kind they are using, and then equip the corresponding shield hardener that augments your shield for that kind of damage. That will add 70% resistance.

Or, use a multi-spectral hardener for 40% resistance across the board.

Careful with autorepeat on those.. it'll drain your cap fast. :)

Also, you can observe which pirates are firing the missiles. Then just target and kill them first, taking the hits.

As said before, your only way are smartbombs.

You can also shoot down missiles, but you have to unlock all targets, click on a gun, and then click on the missile. A gun with decent tracking speed would be best I think, as missiles go pretty fast.

Hopefully they can add a right click menu to missiles in flight to make this easier.
