Hi there,
after the weapon changes of last patch i thought a long time about a short-range 1on1 pvp-setup, and want to share my conclusion, and hear your comments.

With 3 store-bought 250mm rails i atm do about 75 damage per second at around 16km (i dislike ranges above 20km, cause you cant warpscramble at those ;). That should roughly equal the long time of about 60 seconds to kill a high-end cruiser (didnt fight one after the patch, yet).

As an alternative i can install 5 heavy ion blasters with plutonium ammo, doing roughly 150 damage per second to a static target (speed inhibitor = -84% topspeed for the victim).

I also install a MWD, but dont switch it online on station. As an assumption the two cruisers are at 20km when both have targeted. I activate the MWD.

I webify and open fire at 10km, switching MWD off, speed approx 1000m/s. I need about 10 seconds for the 9km falloff, and then im in optimal range of the immobile target.

While in falloff range, i do a rough estimate of 750 damage, bringing the enemy down in close range takes another 15-20 seconds.
Total time = roughly 35-40 seconds, which is shorter than the 60 above, plus no ari or rail can hit me while im close.

Worst thing that could happen would be the victim webifying me at approx 9km, it would take me 20-25 seconds to get in good range then.
Even in worst case long range weapons can only hit me for about 15-20 seconds, not enough to kill if he isnt that far out of my skill range.

I didnt test this yet, out of fear of my estimate being completely wrong ;). Maybe ill try it on chaos on some friend soon.

But until then id like to hear your opinions or comments on the above estimate, maybe im totally wrong with some point, and id love to hear from some experiences with the lenght of time it takes to kill cruisers after the patch generally, or with short range setups specifically. Best thanks ;)

(P.S.: About energy: scrambler and webifier take 2 per second, guns take 300 total to do 4000 damage, so i hope no prob there)

only thing i can see there possibly incorrect is you need to have the MWD yellow ( activated ) in station to use it outside the station

and unless your sure of doing superior damage WHEN you get there, id take off the mwd, you will need it for cap - for shield hardners, or boosters, smartbomb.
the shields penalty it deals for an up and close figher is too great as well.
your only hope is to technically outlast them why blasting them from point blank.

Tran the necessary skills for less capacitor need for weapons and modules would help as well.
some of the overdrive modules will increase your top speed.

note : this is from my listening into my group outfitting, Im the one with the 450 shields in a blackbird , and a full EW outfit.

Yeah, striker makes it pretty easy for us close range cruisers to rip some heads off.

The worst thing that can happen to you is that someone has weapon disruptors, you drive in close and then cannot do anything. :p

I don't think hybrids are a very good choice for PVP, at the moment PVP revolves around cap, the less sources of drain the higher your chance of survival.

your opponent sees you, klicks the "keep at rang button at 20k, turns on MWD, and fires his long range weapons untill you are dead.

never put it all on one gun, to easy to counter

You realize that, and turn and warp away, because with the MWD keeping him more than 20k away he can't even warp scramble you.

Both good view points but in reality you can't make your ship too generic or it is crappy in all situations. So basically you need to decide on a playing style and stick to it. Either go in short and box, or stay out long and kite.

Yes there is a easy way to counter these depending on your setup, but that is the fun of the game. You need to try and determine what your opponent will do and anticipate their loadout.

You choice is warp scrap, webifuer, mwd, that means even in moa, you only have 1 med slot left for shield booster or hardener, and you use hybrid weapon. your cap won't last long enough to kill any one in a cruiser......
