I find that most 'users' are the problem, not the game.

I say this from 20+ years of supporting 'users'. Most are real fast to blame the tool instead of looking at the directions, where it shows them how to use it.

Normal as a PC shop owner id agree with this, i hope you fine time to post when your implants or caraters go missing, eve is 1 seriours bug fest.

Well just sent in a petition. I'll post if I get a response.

The bug does seem to be related to when you try to switch from your main char to one of the others. Or it could be that I tried to delete my main char. That is when I started having the problem.

Guess I'll just go get another trial account as this one appears to be down for the count. I sure hope all you paying customers get a permanent fix soon.

Customer support replied to my petition. They said the new caracter I have created yesterday is bugged. I gave them permission to delete it. I will post back the results.

Well I am not a dumbass user, thank you. I do have intelligence. I would be happy to follow instructions on what to do. I think though that this is a problem with the game character database. Not on my side. Seeing as how I have tried everything and even deleted and re-DLed the game and all the patches.

When I delete the cache I log back in and can see my characters. But when I try to get one of them it locks up on retrieval. Then I close the game, re-open and the chars are not there. Empty the cache again, rinse, repeat. It's when I actually try to retrieve one of the chars that they disappear from the log in screen.

What's amazing to me is not that this is occuring, but the total silence on part of the game's devs. I have searched the forums for any info on this bug and seen no information on how to fix it. Surely I am not the only one with this type of problem.

It's not the problems that drive customers away, it's lack of acknowledgement and communication by the game's devs that do.

As it stands now, I have wasted 2 of my 14 day free trial(not to mention about 12 hours of my time) trying to just be able to play the game. Free trials are meant to draw in customers, not drive them away. I have heard good things about this game and really want to play it, but this is not making a good impression on me.

All valid and well spoken points.

CCP does have room to improve.

...to CCP's credit, it was a patch, and they couldn't afford a duplicate setup for their lab (reality is harsh on those lab cost). Overall, I call this a 'glitch' that I am sure they will handle soon(tm)...ugh

I dont think I wanna risk running eve tonight.

I feel a rollback is due best not make to many changes or too much isk your only be gutted.

I think when the server mestup someone used the test server code & copied our accounts in, it was given away by the 600 limit after the first few failed updates wednesday & so much is mestup or didnt get added at all.

Those of you who have this problem :

1) Clear Cache
2) Choose character
3) If the game CRASHES choose ANOTHER character

See if that helps. I know it sounds funky, but sometimes a bad savegame (ie character data) can cause its application to crash.

Now the problem is, what if someone with a few million SP gets this problem, what are they supposed to do? Just delete their toon?

As for the gripes of technicians, believe me I've been there.

I've worked support all through college, there are days when I punched the phone in frustration. People will call you up and curse at you because another technician said they would come over soon and didn't. People will call up and say "I know the CEO and you better have an answer to this, or you'll get fired."

I've actually had the CEO, a multi-billionaire, yell at me because his printer wasn't working, I didn't know he was the CEO, he was expecting me to jump out of my seat and run down there and fix his print que, instead I told him I would create an incident report for him and a technician will be over today. Well he went ballistic "do you know who I am?!?" and when my manager heard him yelling on speakerphone, he took off running to go fix the CEO's print que.

Yes I've seen it all, I've also had users buy me lunch in appreciation for fixing their problem, and one middle aged woman wanted to take me to dinner with bedroom eyes but I said I was busy.

One thing I noticed is that %90 it wasn't the user's fault.

Sad but true.

People would login, and their login script wouldn't kick in, or their print que would dissappear, or the printer wasn't showing up on the network.

I saw these problems happen from time to time on my own workstation, that's not user error, thats something funky with SAP or netbeui or ARP, usually either the wiring in the building is too long and signals are getting dropped, or something funky with the protocols.

The creator of Dilbert said it best, everybody is stupid, they are just stupid about different things.

I've seen technical geniuses who couldn't get a date to save their life, total social ineptitude. I met one guy who didn't bother filing his taxes for 6 years. Met a chinese technician who could barely understand english, but could build hardware blindfolded. And the ultimate disgrace were two technicians, one was a female, she came to work every day in SWEAT PANTS and had a *****y attitude. The other was like this new age hippie, came to work every day sporting SANDALS and a full beard, and always spoke in a soft slow tone with the users like he was instructing a yoga class.

Yes, this is the quality of techs and users in the world.Rolling Eyes

The problem is that your offending those of us who like the game and have no problems with it.

Some of us have been playing for 2years+. I guess you could compare Eve and CCP to a sports team, we're fans.. attack what we're fans of and it ****es us off.

This is a known bug, fine.. but it's still your problem and most of us don't have this problem. Shoddy programming? maybe.. stupid user? possibly.. maybe you're just really unlucky, who knows.

Clear the cache again and either choose another character or if you have two open slots, create a new character.

If one character can get into the game, but another character always crashes the client, that's some kind of user data corruption.

I have no idea how the devs plan to fix that, maybe export the data, create a new character and import all the data, if there is such a mechanism.

Anyway...I'm just glad it's not me....that's a nasty bug.

Now, is it just me, or is a person in tech support meant to help clueless customers out? The same way a car mechanic is meant to help a driver out when the engine fails? Or should everyone learn exactly how everything works and ho to fix every problem with everything?
