CCP: Please please please do something about the totally stupidly small amounts that security rating go up when you kill pirates.

In two weeks of killing pirates I have only seen my security rating go from 9.1 to 9.2....

I understand that making it too easy to get security increases is open to exploits by pirates, but the way things stand at the moment it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to increase your security rating AT ALL.

Take this simple scenario - You are fighting pirates at a gate - you launch a missile at a pirate. Missile UNLIKE guns DO hit space objects like jumpgates (this "double standard" is strange enough in itself, but anyway). Your missile tracks a pirate but impacts the gate as it was in the way.....

Gate guns puree' you and you take a security rating hit. It is currently ALMOST impossible for you to recover from that security rating hit the way things stand at the moment....and this is harming gameplay for some people.

BTW: The only reason I have a security rating of 9+ is because I did a lot of killing before the nerf came into effect.

I really do feel that this issue needs to be addressed, otherwise I can see some people (especially relative noobs) having to restart their characters because they fall foul off Concords' over-zealous law's (often through no fault of their own - see above example), and are unable to recover from that....

With the recent changes (sentry guns everywhere, active reaction to sec stat changes and whatnot) it'd make sense to increase security status gains a bit -- not only would it leave the option for players who screwed things up by accident, it'd also give the PC pirates an opportunity to make *occassional* raids into 'safer' regions without getting torn apart on the entry, and wreak some havoc before they're forced to flee again, thus spicing things up.... ;)

A MUCH better solution would be to make any ship kill an instant negative SR. Doesn't matter what your old rating was, you blewup a ship you take the hit. Pirate rating bonuses when you are negative could all be reduced too just to make it harder to recover from the hit. Naturally damage will not incur such a hit and in fact single shots should NOT incur a police or turret response. i.e. splash damage needs to be ignored.

In other words please make the police more intelligent. Ignore small fry (splash damage), send a small fleet, big enough to leave a cruiser with a repair bill, after drone killers, leave the big mass warp scrambler fleets for the guys with the big bad security rating.

You are aware that a negative security rating will recover 0.1/day ?

The only problem is raising a positive security rating upwards, clue me in if anyone knows how to do it apart from rabid pirate hunting, I'd assume bounty hunting can do it too.

Anyone with a 0.0 rating or higher that "falls foul" will easily recover the minor hit by just waiting it out, if you go below -5.0 then that's hardly "falling foul" anymore.

I agree on that :/

I do not use missiles, but it's really annoing not to get more points in killing pirates. It was nerfed too much.
Maybe devs will have to slightly increase it.
At the moments, I receive a 0.0002 bonus :(

I'm at 9.something because I hunted a lot before but I think I will never pass the 10.

May be you can add an increase into the next patch (from 0.0002 to 0.005 or 0.01). I only hunt NPC...The empire should be more generous with his gentle defenders :p

The answer is actually right here in this thread, look at what Shivash suggests.

Problem is, raising your SR _before_ you go out on a killing spree, like a murderer is excused because he's just come out the blood donation centre.

So how about the following:

1. Raise bonus for killing NPC Pirates.

2. Make SR hits on criminal activity place you instantly on a negative rating, regardless of what positive score you had before, if you already had a negative rating then it just gets worse as it does now.

3. Make the above relative to system Security Level, i.e. Podding (for example) puts you at a negative rating equal to 10x the Security Level, so a podkill in 0.6 spaces puts you at -6.0 (unless you are already at -6.0 or below), lesser crimes obviously don't have this much of an effect.

This way, a criminal profession can redeem themselves by aggressive NPC pirate hunting, however, what they can't do is "save up" SR and "spend it" on criminal activities.
