I am thinking of setting up an event for players to try some PvP without much risk. The event would teach people a bit about PvP and more importantly give them a taste of how much fun it can be. The goal is to have fun above all else.

-------------------------------------------------
-Two or more corps created and declare war.

-Persons interested in the event create Alts and Join one of the corps.

-Ships will be limited to Rookie Ships, Navitas and Atrons

-Any module allowed

-Main char allowed if you are willing to eat the clone cost.

-Every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) we all meet in one of the belts in Duripant. (it would be nice if some of the Veteran PvPers would show up an hour early to answer noob questions and teach a basic class on PvP)

-All ships must be with 500m of at least one other ship at the start

-As soon as ship labeled 'Flag Ship' warps out of the area, combat will begin.

-At the end of one hour, the corp with the most members in the belt wins.

-Not sure how to handle rules on the loot floating out there. I would say dont use a module you are not willing to loose.

-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------

Well I am sure there are some flaws in the idea I have not thought of. Let me know what you guys think.

I would be willing to set up one of the corps and to make avail a ton of small hybrid turrents and modules. (Have so much from missions)

Ideally, if this attracts interest, I would like one of you Experienced Pirates/B-Hunters to take the lead on this event. I am new to the game not qualified to lead this.

Thanks

It sounds good, but however, you might want to change the limit of ships allowed, to cover other races. Having it specificly to Gallente wouldnt be fair to a character like mine, who can only fly Amarr and use Lasers....

If you hold this sometime, contact me, I'd like to come...I can probebly provide some PvP knowledge

I will include ships from all races. Currently trying to choose ones that will not upset the balance.

Hey mate,

Good idea! My corp has run such events for our less violent members as well, or those with violent tendencies who just want to gain more experience. Below is a post I made concerning the organisation of one such event, taking various skill levels into account etc... Hope you might find it useful, or that it generates more discussion.

ORIGINAL DOCUMENT

Below you will find the details of the Security Departments Corp Event. This Event will be held at the **censored**. Date and times will be available on the calander soon. Tentativly shooting for begining at 2000h EVE time on Sunday Feb 20th in the **Censored** system. If you wish to participate please sign below.

Disclaimer and General Info: This is a Live Fire Excercise. Ships may be destroyed. However, no Pod kills allowed!

We are here to have fun and to gain experience with PvP.

This is a bring your own ship event. If you are unable to provide ships and modules for yourself please send an EVE-mail to Harry Wenger, no later than two days before the event, so that we can make arrangements to get you outfitted.

Looting of participants cans is not permitted! Please name your dropcan if you are put in a pod before moving out of the combat zone.

Purpose:

Introduce members to the basics of PvP by engaging in live fire excercises.

Goals:

1. Familiarise members with actual combat, in a controlled setting.
2. Develop the basics of PvP tactics by practice, analysis, and discussion.
3. Using Comms (team speak and chat).

As this is a training excercise there are some conditions to be adhered to. The excercise will be broken down into three sections. Each section will add progressivly more detail to the combat scenario.

Scenario 1: Meeting Engagement (2 Teams)

Hull Class: Frigate

Restrictions on Modules: No MWD, No EW (includes Warp Scramble), No Missiles except for Rockets.

Setup: Team 1 will begin at **Censored**, Team 2 will begin at **Censored**. Each team will have 10 minutes to discuss a plan of attack, at the end of the 10 minutes each team is to warp to the combat zone.

Team 1 will warp to 15km from GNSS buoy, Team 2 will warp to 40km from GNSS buoy. Upon arrival each side will begin fighting.

Victory Conditions: Control of the battlefield, by forcing the opposing team to disengage or destroying their ships.

If you warp out of the battle area you must declare via chat that you have disengaged. You may return to observe by warping to the "Observation" buoy, but must maintain maximum distance from the remaining combatants. Interference is not permited after disengaging, either by target locking the remaining participants, or by providing intel over comms for your remaining team mates.

Scenario 2: Meeting Engagement (2 Teams)

Hull Class: Frigate

Restrictions on Modules: No MWD, No Missiles except for Rockets.

Setup: Same as scenario 1.

Scenario 3: Meeting Engagement (2 Teams)

Hull Class: Frigate

Restrictions on Modules : No Restrictions.

Setup: Same as Scenario 1.

Other Notes:

After each scenario we will briefly discuss what has occured as a group before begining the next scenario. At the end of the excercise a more lengthy debriefing will occur.

Team Speak will be of great help to those participating. Even if you do not have a mic, you should still be able to log onto the channel and listen.

If we have a need and desire, a second temporary channel will be set up on the TS server for one of the two teams to use during the excercise.

Any questions or comments should be posted on this thread. Bookmarks for the various buoy's mentioned above can be found at **Censored**, in the Supply Hanger under Bookmarks.

Transmission Ends...

Harry

this really sounds like fun. when is this gonna happen? is a date set yet?
how are you gonna name the corps? team RED and team BLUE maybe? or just 1 corp?? with the new patch concentual wars are possible so it'wouldn't cost anything.

and for the frigs only lvl 2 frigs? Thats best for alts I think.
I probably have mopre questions but can't really think of them.

@ CareBear

Yes this particular event was a success. Everyone had a good time and I think that everyone gained a bit of perspective and understanding about some aspect of PvP. Now, you should understand that most of the participants are relativly newish characters, and many had no real combat experience in EVE. I really like to PvP (used to hardcore SFC2+3 and flight sim), but as a new player I am very limited in some respects because of low skills and isk, so this was a good thing for us to get a start on things to come.

As well, we are not rich so doing things like this have to be planned in advance (my personal expenses for this event topped 5M isk, not much I know; but then again I don't mine Veld all day either) so sinking isk into something like this can hold someone back in other areas. Keep this in mind if you have new players joining in. Maybe some wealthy alts could offer up some good low end gear for folks to use.

As well, I had to consider everyones general skill levels, but took the easy route in making some general module restrictions etc...

One last thing, even with new players flying frigs the dmg output is much higher than the ships dmg threshold Razz , our scenario rounds lasted about 2 minutes before one side had claimed victory (and no, not everyone was missile whoring Wink ). So you may want folks to take it up a step to cheap cruisers or something to make the scenario last a bit longer than an eye-blink heheh.

I think your idea has merit, it's a good way to introduce new folks or hardcore non-PvP'ers to the art of combat. As well as provide an opportunity for some vets to pass on some wisdom. Remember, you can also set up types of scenarios as well, such as multi system convoy for those who want the challange of a game of cat and mouse, or protect the mining op.

Cheers,

Harry

Thanks for the tips Harry!

Filiberto: yes I am thinking of using a naming convention like that. Colors would work well. I am 30 min (training for corp management)away form creating the 'base' name corp. I will append to the name a color or something like alpha, omega .. etc. The other corps can just use the same base name combine it with some other indentifier such as color.

First event will be March 26th (though a mini trial run might occur this Sunday)

I am going to keep this at small frigate level as that is something I can easily support module wise. I don't have a ton of med turrents laying about but I do have a ton of small turrents and basic catagory loot.

Harry has pointed out that combat can be quite quick though, when it comes to frigate battles, so I am going to have to come up with a way to deal with this.

Mutiple short rounds might work... but there is always that re-organizing down time before each round that can quickly drain the fun out.

I or someone else will come up with something I am sure.

Do you need to create your own corp or can you chuck an alt in the one you've made? Very Happy

You can chuck your alt in my corp. I am hoping others will also create corps (some will be open to all like mine and I imagine some will be 'reresenting' a corp and open only to that corp). If nobody forms a second corp then I will do it.

Ok, well did some thinking and I came up with a way to keep the action going. This is some of the basic gameplay. More details later.

1) Each Tournament Team Playing Creates a Jet Can.

2) In each Can an equal amount of Ore (at most = can capacity divided by team count) will be placed

3) The cans will all be at least 30 KM from each other

4) When Combat begins, the goal will be to pop the opposing team(s) cans by pulling out ore from their Jet Cans (and into their own) until the Can pops.

5) Once a Can pops that team is not longer in play.

6) At the end of one hour, the team with the most ore in their can wins.

7) During play, if your ship is destroyed, you can just get another ship and just jump back into the game. The only way you will be truly out of the game is if your can pops.

Well, I will work out the kinks soon. Must get back to work :)

One thing that I might do is to come up with a formula to counting the ore at the end so that corps that played with a small team gets some balance versus the bigger teams.

Quiet baagy or I'll release the TS recording of you drunk going to attack a 47 man blob solo in your apoc.

Or should I mention the other time you flew a fully fitted raven into a 0.5 and got away only to do it again and get shot down Twisted Evil

It's going to be interesting to see what kind of defensive and offensive strategies would come into play. I would think a smaller team would concentrate more on creating a defensive partrol than attempting to take the other teams ore.

If everyone plays defensive... well that would be boring and bad... I am sure everyone will be trigger happy enough though that this will not happen.

the pop-the-can game sounds fun there should be a referee I think to shout in channel to say if the can got popped and to make sure the players don't shoot the can if the can is gone the winning team must present all the ore that was in the can.(just to be sure).
don't know if it's covered but I think podding isn't alowed right? cous I think I'll just join with my main.(or only alts alowed?) there could be even more games like that..like teams of 2 - 3 that would give a GREAT diversity of play like 1 frig could be setup to shield or armor tank the other or fit a scambler probably alot more to think of if your creative.
just thinking you could alow a destroyer or 2 maybe to allow other team members to think of maybe other setup then just dmg mods cous destroyers just fit smal modules it shouldn't be a problem. but then destroyers coud decrease the fight time ever more GRR all the rules:S(guidelines)
offcourse this would recruire alot of maneging and enough spare parts.(I could bring some).

sorry for the rambling I just find this a verry cool idea.

Would need some refs to watch over the gameplay. Counting the ore in the end is a good safeguard.
