Which is better in which end of the game. (meaning should noobs use missile then turrents or vise versa, and which one is better for bs vs bs battles)

Missiles are usually better for n00bs because they are very effective with relatively low skills. But if you can afford putting 10million SP in gunnery turrets turn to be superior. This might change with the inclusion of T2 Launchers and missiles though.
Missiles have the advantage of being effective at every range and hitting smaller targets with relative ease, so launchers tend to be the best weapons for nearly every situation, except for long range sniping and fleet combat, even with the speed bonus on caldari missile ships, it takes too much time for a missile to reach a target 100km away for it to be effective.

the missile v turret skill difference will be gone before a noob starting now can make use of the lower skill reqs on missiles.

So, discount that argument for now as we dont know how it'll turn out after the changes.

I'd say training for missiles first still is a good alternative anyways, since missile based ships tend to be most versatile.

missles - but then again races reliant on gunnery skills require relativly low eng skills,

missles races require eng and about 800k sp in missles so best for a nub to train caldari.

tho the call of t2 mega pulse and beam has got me training :) amazing bit of kit.

As of right now its missiles because they simply require less than 1mil total SP to be EFFECTIVE. Gunnery requires alot more to be even subpar ;)

if tech2 missles come out we turrut ppl are gonna have a hard time. Lets hope CCP balance missles and add tracking skills etc.

It changes a little over time depending on how much our most beloved development team tweaks and changes to the diffrent modules.

Now missiles are pretty decent specialy if you want a simple way of doing damage fast (starting players) if you are going to take your time and grow the char slowly then you should go for turrets (currently lasers seem to be best, but tomorrow how knows).

Read the forms and you will see that projectiles are not realy loved rails are so so as are blasters, lasers combined with the bonuses you get on ammar ships and thus armor tanking makes them the most populair turrets currently.

Now CCP is making changes to ammo and to lasers on Dev so soon it will be the same on Traquility and thus you might want to try on dev which you should go for.

Turrets by far and don't believe those who say you need 10 million SPs in gunnery, it's plain stupid.

Missiles are good for NPCs, that's about it.
For PvP, they won't hit because of the target goes too fast, or is destroyed before your missiles hit or has warped away.

Both have their pluses and minuses. For a starting character missles are great. They always hit against NPC's for max damage and the time it takes for them to reach the target is not a factor because the NPC will not warp out. For vetran pilots missles can still be good to a point. Fitted to a Raven pilot torpedos and cruismissles at close range are devestating. At medium to long range they suck in PVP because it takes so long to get to the target only a fool would sit and wait for them to arrive.

There are also defences to missles in PVP. PPl can fit a launcher with defenders or a smartbomb and with a bit of practice kill most of your missles. Speed is also an issue with missles. If the target is faster than your missles they are immune to them as they can just out run them.

Turrets typically have a faster rate of fire and hit instantly. Some can even hit harder than missles. The weakness of turrets is in the tracking. If you can move faster than your enemys turrets can track you they will miss you. This is why ppl with a lot of skill points in gunnery skills will go for the turrets as they have trained skills to not only increase damage but also tracking to a point that the turret will become a better option than missles in most cases.

In conclusion I would say that missles are at a bit of a disadvantage atm ingame to turrets with the exception of the Raven spamming torps or cruise at close range mentioned above. So far CCP has not released the T2 mods for missles like they have for turrets. Therefore in most cases missle specialest in smaller ships than the raven often find them self at a disadvantage in the mid to long range fights.

That is not entierly true, yes missiles takes some time to hit and aint doing geddon type damage. Ravens play another role in fleets and pvp, they are frigate/cruiser killers. To get rid of tacklers is vital in most fleets.
Missiles do hit fast targers like ceptors if used on a caldari ship (raven) and combined with the right modules, try flying a ceptor when a raven puts two heavy nosf's on ya Smile
So, they aint THAT bad.

turrets 4tw. use missiles only for killing targets that are smaller than u and for npcs. The only "good" missile is torpedo when fired from raven :)

Oh yes, you are right, and not only a Crow, I already got wasted in one volley in a Harpy Evil or Very Mad
But that's not exactly what I'd like to do in a Raven, even if I like popping frigates.
Using a 300 million ISK battleship as a destroyer, role that should be kingdom of assault frigates, destroyers and cruisers, is pretty pathetic.
And will be removed soon.
So... what's left?

P.S.: at least, it's always a good laugh when my fleet commander tells us to move at optimal range and I reply 'you can't figure how it's hard to guess where the ennemy will pop in so I can open fire on them at 0 meter...'

light - missles and turrets are balanced. I prefer turrets
medium - turrets
heavy - missles

battleship turrets are near useless.. i guess against other battleships they may have their uses, I still prefer missles though.. unless I'm fighting at more then 50km
