I've only been playing a week or so and so far i've kept my options open as far as ship skills go and have lvl 2/3 for all frigate classes. I want to go for a Cruiser next but not sure which race cruiser to go for? I think I've narrowed it down to a Rupture, Moa or Celestis. Anyone have any advice which would be the best way to go?

In many ways the moa and rupture are similar, they are mainly long range boats, top teir cruisers, with a mix of guns n missles.

So, the first question is, what kinda weapons do you want to use? Rails for the moa, artilleries for the ruppy. Then, what tanking skills do you have? Moas sheild tank, ruppies armor tank.

I overall prefer the ruppy, because i can fit a good AB and armor tank and do missions at a faster rate.

Also, a good point is what battleship appeals to you the most? Do you like the ewar and missle platforms of the caldari? Or the artillery long range goodness of the tempest and the overall buttkicking coolness of the fugly phoon? ;)

Or you could just go Carcal... but if you want a good Gun/Missile Platform I agree the above poster... Go Rupture

Caracal is your best choice for NPC, and decent choice for PvP

it takes less skill to train missiles than guns. If you use cruiser guns, you'll find that they often have problems with fast orbiting frigates, especially if you use rails.

With missiles, you can safely kill pretty much any NPC and keep out of its firing range at 40+km

The Caracal is probably one of the most common cruisers for good reason, as Face Lifter said it's an excellent NPC killer and not bad as a PvP cruiser.

No one mentioned the thorax? *cries* I used one for a lonnggg time up untill lvl 4 missions came out as I recall. It takes some skills to use real well but its a FUN ship. Drone bay to hold 8 heavy drones and can go small blaster/rail with heavy tank or long range. Carcel is the easiest I would say skill wise but my favorite cruiser I think will always be the thorax.

Cheers guys, decided to go for the Rupture in the end. Might not be the exact purpose of it but I'll probably be involved in a fair bit of mining for a while so the flexibility of 2/3 launchers with 3/4 turrets suits me for mining and protection of my fellow corp members. By the sounds of it should be capable of coping with NPC until i can get up to Battleship level too.

The thorax is a very good miner if u have the skills. It can mount 5 miner 2's with some co-processors and still armour tank. And u have 8 heavy drones to protect you against npc's which is more then enough for anything smaller then a battleship.

I wub my wax. It is the best cruiser in eve IMO Smile

Agreed thorax's are nice, would actually like to try a diemos out. But im kind of against using galante ships, as im caldari and all.

Id probibly do caldari if i were you as the osprey makes a great miner, the blackbird an awesome jammer, and the moa and caracal hold their own against npc rats, so you have all bases covered.

Saying that it depends where your skills lie, im sure you will get chance to train both cruiser skills as a bit of variety is always nice, and flying differnt ships makes eve more fun.

thorax for t3h win. Definitely most deadly t1 cruiser in eve. But you need decent skills to be deadly. Go for caracal, easiest to use & not bad at anything.

Thorax!! I dont know how many Intercetpers/Assualt frigs/and T1 Crusiers pilots i havn't pwned in it, but with a 2 month old char, every one of those people where probably smacking thier keyboard when what they thought was an easy target burped out 8 heavy drones; webified; and warp scramed them and opened up on the blasters!!!!

The Thorax is AWESOME, honestly i think its a typo that it has 2000m dronebay while the vexor has only 1500m (the vexor can't match the damage of 8 heavys even with 15 mediums, or any other configuration)

And for NPCs, just use a Rax sniper set up, 5 250mm Scouts!... my rax can solo the 4-10 complex i wub it!

Setup-- (i know some people are gona yell at me)
2x 200mm Rails - use so people think you have rails
3x Blasters - Neutron Ion and Electron (bigest you can fit)
1x After burn
1x Webifier
1x Warpscram
PDUs or caprely if you dont need PWG
Damage Mods
Small T2 Armor repair
*Plate or hardener if you have room

And 8 heavy drones, i prefer 2 of each :)
(if you think you may be attacked by someone in a fast frig, that will be moving like a bat out of hell and avioding your webifier range, swap 2 heavy drones for a supply of acolys and warrior drones, i prefer 10 acolys because they have mental impact for taking the guys shields down so fast, he may get spooked)

Always fire the 2 rails off, and hope like hell they take the bait and come close to you to aviod rail hits, then fire up the webi and warp scram... lanuch the drones and light up the blasters and BOOOOM! you win!

Also i its really cool to have just 7 heavys and 5 lights, and have 3 light drones launched, orbiting you... they will think you have crapy drone skills :) i love tricking pirates!

pathetic: you can open fire with blasters, miss everything, but rats will come after you. 2000m3 is not typo, it is there with purpose, cause try to fit rax with med guns:)
Only med blasters that you can put on with some tank without pdu-s or rcu-s are electrons... and probably light neutrons II are better in just everything.

And yes, rax is best cruiser in game...
