First off, this is an alt.

My main means of earning isk recently has been raiding other people's wormholes. Obviously I prefer empty ones, but these are very few and far between, and even "occupied" wormholes are usually completely defenceless for the 16 hours a day their corp is offline.

I do occasionally meet some resistance however, and I tend to GTFO around the time a big scary ship or combat scanner probe shows up on dscan. More often than not though this resistance is pitiful; I've seen multiple wormholes with just a single BC for defence, and a small fleet of miners.

I sense an additional revenue stream here.

The only problem is, I need a way to actually catch my prey. I also want to keep my own ship fairly disposible, as I'm likely to die horribly a couple of times.

So my questions are;

- What is the smallest (cheapest) ship that can fit combat probes and still remain reasonably combat-effective? Bearing in mind I will only be going after "soft" targets and will not expect to beat a serious PVP fit, and I fly mainly Minmatar.

- Is there a good way to find targets without using combat probes?

- How viable is this in the first place? I know I've been ambushed several times in a wormhole, but I don't think I can use any of the techniques people used to catch me.

Twice its been SBs, presumably using dscan and hopping from anom to anom and I don't have an SB or any plans to get one any time soon.

Once it was a Loki and he was sitting on the wormhole exit waiting for me... so I just went back through and escaped. That was easy.

Another time it was a gang, and they found me because I was in the only anom in the hole. That one didn't go so well.

The problem I guess is that I'm not going to find soft targets at anomolies; they'll be mainly at gravs. This means I need to either (quickly) probe down the grav, or ideally use a combat scanner.

Thoughts?

Your intended combat style is something we specialize in as a corp. Without wanting to get too wordy, and/or give away too many trade secrets, I will offer a few pointers:

Most people move into a WH to carebear it up. This is your biggest advantage in any combat situation, they want to flee and avoid the fight, you want to kill them. You can take the initiative more times than not.

With little exception, there is no ISK to be made in ransoming. Instead, look for targets that will drop you money. The easiest, of course, the Noctis.
50-200mil drops are not uncommon.

The rest of your post, is basically a description of how you want a ship that is a stealth bomber, but you don't want a stealth bomber. There's little better in the way of a ship that can do hit and run attacks on soft targets.

Watch a hauler at the POS .. check which planet it warps to .. warp to the customs office at 20km, bomb, point, torp, laugh.

Could I convince you otherwise? Wink

If you don't want a stealth bomber, the next best thing is two accounts:
- One in a covops. Battle cheetah, battle helios work well.
- One in anything ganky (Hurricane)

Sneak up on the ship, point, warp BC and murder. This will give you most ships running an anom as a target, and your risk is not great.

Doing the same solo, you really need a cloaky T3. They're expensive, and you'll not match the DPS of a gank cane so you'll be unlikely to break the Drake at all. If the Drake is bait, you just lost your Loki.

As for finding a target without probes ... the real question, is can you find it WITH probes WITHOUT the target seeing them? Take a look here.

Now if you have that stealth bomber, one thing you can do with your grav sites is to simply drop CORE probes and scan them down, then switch to silent running.
The carebears will then resume (no.. I didn't think they would either, but they do..) mining a short time after the probes have gone.
DSCAN to find which one they are at, warp in at range.
Bookmark the nearest rock, warp out.
Warp to the rock at 30km, align to bomb.
Bomb.

You can also just slap some guns on a Covops. You'd be surprised what you can kill in them.
Haulers / other covops not rigged for glorious battle / T1 scan ships / pods / Noctis / salvage dessie / ...
Basically anything unarmed with a lowish EHP.
EDIT: Pretty much all mining ships. Yes even Hulks

Shocked WH Carabear it up ???:) Hmm I dont think so:) I dont know maby u fly in c1 c2 sometomes c3:d Where usualy all miners live:)If u do so - U can easly ***** them :) if u live in hight sec:) for example give ur selve time to probe 3 or 4 Wholes wich is god for u :) Like C1 C2 :) Probe all Signatures there. Then u are finishe just wisit them all :) Or just give ur selve time to do few anomalies and fly around one more time:) Then u will have all signnatures... U wil albe able to save slots in ur ship, and perform ur execusion much more faster:) it will give u a ability to moove away quick, before the enemy supporrt gets on u. :)

Thats mine opinion:) I do so in c5 :) But still i dont think Wh is FOr care bears....

That's a ****ing train-wreck of a post. You managed about 1 in 5 words correctly.

Some points:
a) You're in Narwhaals .. which says very little for their recruitment policy Neutral
b) You're in Narwhaals .. so surely to god you realise your alliance spends most their time doing merc jobs .. merc jobs that revolve around you bailing carebears out of trouble because they're too inept to do it themselves?
