Ok I know there cannot be an exact answer to this, but from your experiences how long before people give in, I have been playing this game all morning 7 hours or so and am winning, but how long until they walk away so i dont have to check every 15 mins.

When they want to do something else... .... like sleep... eat... go on a date... etc.
Otherwise they will be at at as long as you will.

Never!

We shall defend our market, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the stations, we shall fight on the trading grounds; we shall never surrender.

Although personally, whenever I dabble, I give up after a half hour and move onto something else. The general advice of diversify serves not only to limit your exposure to a market slump but to market competition.

I usually sandwich them for half an hour, is it goes on for over two hours (especially on items that don't have that high volume) I start suspecting that it's a bot, and leave it there.

I'll generally put in a movie or two or watch TV while I market, so the couple times a week i offload my goods I .01 for at least 4-5 hours or so.

Gotten a handful of of evemails calling me a bot.. although I wonder why they bother to mail bot... meh

Thing is most of the time someone else will jump in on it as well, so add more time to the wait. Usually Ill see the lot of us just pause though when someone drops a 1 or 2 quantity item for a very large undercut.

I love this way of thinking. But let me give you a few ideas how I like to survive on the ".01 isk battleground".
  • If I'm in the mood to do a clickfest (eg. while flying a longer distance), I might end up updating one single item 50 times an hour (using more than one slot of course). Would I do this with every item? No. But if I know I earn more than 1 million isk with each click on average, nobody could stop me to .01-battle-isk. ---> Thus, there are markets, where you CAN'T scare away all other traders by pure .01-isking

  • If you watch some of your favourite items for a few days/weeks, you might disclose a few active traders on one of "your items". Bookmark them. If you are in the mood of trading and they are not active, you might own this small market with very few .01-isky-clicks. If one of this "notorious" competitors is online, you might just ignore this small market, because you KNOW, that this trader somehow got hands on a special implant, that has only one single purpose: Domination of "your little market". Forget trading here for now - you have better things to do.

  • Dustin Roac has a good point: A huge undercut with only a small number of items might chase away competition for some time - SOMETIMES ONLY

  • If you should win an ISK-War ask yourself: "True Victory or just another Phyrrus Victory"
