Eve is free to play, people just refuse to acknowledge it because it doesn't meet their definition. Just like Guild wars didn't meet the perceived definition of MMO, but had well over a million players, and 5 million copies sold.

After the CCP failscascade ends it will become F2P. Like any failed MMO who wants to survive.

People keep claiming that CCP and EVE is failing and going to die due to loosing subscribers, and yet, at the same time, they complain about solo PVP being dead because of ever increasing blob sizes caused by the increased number of players.

It doesn't add up.

As it was said Eve can be F2P because if you cant easily make 300 mil in a month playing casually your doing it wrong. I can casually run level 4s and make this in a few days. i can make it in a couple of days in 0.0, if im uninterupted( and can pay attention that long).

I have played F2P games from Big Point , Aeria, LOTRO, ETC. It actually cost you more money and you get less quality of a game....wait...but...its F2P!!!!!!!!! NO, they want you to think its F2P but you end up with a dev team that couldnt set the clock on a microwave, terrible customer service( If you think CCPs CS is bad , which it isnt, try a F2P game.), a game that is full of bugs( like if i wrote down all the bugs some of these games have i found casually playing it would take an 8 hr day to read them.), and a game designed so it either takes you an enormous amount of time ( IE: last chaos from aeria) to level or you have to buy into the game to get anywhere. And on these game you cannot compete with those who buy in. On top of this you have a restriction of freedom on the forums. Just mentioning any other game on aeria forums gets your post locked. On big point it can get you banned from posting if you mention other games. And neither of those publishers take criticism very well of them or their idiotic devs that cant even get a spell description right( i mean they dont even get it close, we arent talking a couple of typos. It could increase attack and the description will say it increases hit rate). You have to sugar coat everything or you get banned.

As the saying goes on F2P, "Free to play, pay to win". On top of all this you have to deal with some of the most moronic people ever to get online. Not to mention you also have (usually teenagers and college kids) guys chasing everything that remotely resembles a female. And 6 billion teens and preteens. And you tend to get the young ones that still act....5 yrs old.

F2P with MT would completely ruin this game. Eve is the best game in the MMO market right now. No one can offer what Eve does for the price Eve does and still upgrade and update the game. I mean seriously, they give us a free xpack every 6 months.. they dont have to keep expanding the game. And i know its a way to keep the player base here(Eve is a very top heavy game full of players that have played for years) but seriously they just keep adding to it all for the same $15 a month that you dont even have to pay if you can make 300 mil in a month which isnt hard.

You will not find a game with this kind of content for this price. Not even 1/2 the content. Not even the infamous WOW is in the same league as EVE. And you want to ruin it all with F2P? Are you ****ing insane, son?

When i started eve 3-4 years ago the peak population i would see was about 28k online. Last year the peak population i would see online was 67k. The highest population i have seen since being back from a 6 month break(been back about 2 weeks now) is 45k. But to be fair i have been logging on at the tail end of peak or right after so it may hit 50-55k. Still i think they are starting to lose a few now because of the blobbling.

Also i dont think people where happy with the last patch. Most of the player base seems not to care about walking in stations, especially when their are other things to fix like sov warfare, lag issues, ship rebalancing, race rebalancing( Read:"Gallente need a desperate overhaul"), and the fact that EVE is starting to feel like the ghetto instead of space. In 4 years they have added 2500?? WH systems but the online population has more than doubled and a majority of eves players almost never or never goes into WH space.

LOl I have seen it past 60k late last year. That was in the middle of summer. People play more in fall/ winter.I doubt know CCP doesnt announce it every time they break a record( IE: "we hit 60,142"...... 3 days later "We hit 60,205", a week later "we hit 60,371" ...etc. ).

So im calling BS on your BS.

Screw f2p, however, I'd like to have my own little server with my friends....

Less systems, less ppl, less gate camps, less baiters, less ninjas = better time for me.

Yes, I'm a carebear... Just sayin'.... It'd be nice to have that option

is there something to f2p that I am missing....everyone I tried I hated. yeah its free....then force fed 200 ways to nickel and dime you to death. Usually leave them going jsut charge me the 15 and get me a fully functional game ffs.

GW only exception...liked that a bit. But thats not even f2p, you pay the 1 time fee for the game and any expansions you get. Thinks its waht $45 all said and done....wasn't a bad deal imo. They then nickel and dime you for crap which is not game enhancing which is fine.

All time high is 63k

Also, I find these thread amusing in light of the fact that EvE STARTED as a F2P game, and then they started charging subs after a year or 2. Pay2Play is a more stable income model that F2P, so CCP isn't gonna go back while they need the money to fund TargetsOnConsoles and GlitterVamp2000 development.

I stand corrected, could of swore it was 67k but knew it was at least 62k. It looks like we are near mid 2009 maybe a bit earlier levels on users. Superblob Naptrain and stupid xpacks are ruining this game.

looking at the stats on http://eve-offline.net you can see that this year has seen a flat and somewhat downward trend in total concurrent players.

I believe that some of the player base has got patch fatigue, will the come back though?...

Also of note is the prices and number of characters in the character bazaar, over the last 6 months, I've seen the number of WTB listings drop...

Havind said that, I dont think EVE should go free to play, that would mean less money for CCP and a lower quality game, and more random players who mite be good fodder but dont make for good corpies... nothing invested nothing lost...

They make a pretty big deal of it every AT actually. The 63k is probably from AT9.

Looking at the eve offline data, you'll see a spike every 6 months (basically every major patch) followed by a drop for a while. Comparing it to this month during the previous years you'll see that Incarna just failed to increase the population (despite bringing nothing new to the game) rather then decrease it..."EVE is dying" would require a pretty big drop, epsecially when any loss of subscriptions is countered by whatever they sell in the NEX store.

rofl... what a silly guy. You would grind ISK by shooting stupid red crosses for what exactly??? For a nice amount of ISK you can show your friend sitting just next to you? Eve is eve BECAUSE of the single universe, your isk are useless if you cant spend them on the market, which only exists because of people running it.

You're correct. However, if I could have my own little server that had stuff for sale, or I could at least make it myself.

However, I am addicted to Eve for the progression. I enjoy getting into that next ship that I want. I grind missions to afford those ships and the fittings I want for them.
I'm not much into the combat pvp even though I do have trained skills and know how to pvp. I just prefer not to.
