Ive been thinking about this for some time as im becoming increasing bored of highsec.

The situation

But here is the problem. Im in a maxed out nightmare that chews through all missions regardless of racial enemies. I pay no tax and change up all my LPs into items that sell very well at well over 1000 isk per LP.

The problem

Every offer ive had to go to nullsec means joining a corp with between 10-15% tax. Plus im not that happy to take my nightmare to nullsec which means that i would have to take a ship that is less effective at ratting/plexing. So would put me out of pocket if i wanted to carebear there?

The Donkey Punch.

I like pvp and highsec wars are ok although its more about harassment, even against other pvp corps. Lowsec is all about gate camps as far as i can see and ive never had a fight outside of one. I dont know what large scale pvp is like in nullsec. Is there room for specialised ships or is it all dps based ships. i cant see a curse for example having a role in a 500 vs 500 man fight.


The Money Shot.

Is there anyway to move to nullsec and make as much isk as you can in highsec. Is PvP restricted to blob warfare or cloaky cloaky.


DVD rights and the internet.

Ive seen a lot of vids on the internet showing plenty of blob warfare, but also a lot of small gang combat. Is the smallgang combat mainly in NPC nullsec or can you get that in player owned systems.

Self loathing and recovery.

Ive met a lot of people who have come back from nullsec who say that they ended up playing as robots just going through the motions of doing exactly as there fleet commander said and just thinking about the money they were earning. And they are never going back.

A warning to others.

For a less regimented play is it better to go to NPC space or player owned space. and is there solo and small gang work to be had there.

If this is your first move to null-sec, store your Nightmare in high-sec and use a tech-1 battleship in nullsec.
  1. It's always a good idea to have a way of making ISK in high-sec in case your alliance loses it space, the corporation you're in decides to leave the alliance, or you have to depart from the game and come back a few months later to find your home outpost in hostile hands.
  2. Until you're used to watching local and intel channels, and acquire good nullsec habits, you're at a greater risk of losing a ship. It's much cheaper and easier to replace an Abaddon than a Nightmare. And you will get ganked sooner or later.
  3. Depending on alliance logistics and how far your alliance's space is from high-sec, moving ships there safely might be very difficult or impossible.
  4. If you're moving to a corp where you do not have real-life contacts, there's always a chance that their offer to join will be a scam, and they're just waiting to steal your stuff.


Nullsec can be decent ISK, but it's subject to the quality of space your corporation/alliance occupies, hostile activity in the area, alliance fleet ops, and several other things I've prolly forgotten.

As far as fleets go, most of the alliances I've been in do have semi-regular roams. However, sov warfare is probably the most boring thing I've done in EVE aside from solo mining, especially if you're in a dps ship. Your basic roles wind up being light tackle (interceptors/T1 frigs), scouts (cloaky cov-ops/bomber), bubblers (HICs/dictors), logistics (self-explanatory), EWAR (almost always scorpions), and dps (usually battleships). Everything but battleships/dps tends to die much more often, because there are so many more battleships than anything else in a fleet, and because everything else poses a bigger threat but has a weaker tank. Either way, you will inevitably wind up basically following FC orders like a robot, even if the FC is a twit who gets everyone killed on a regular basis. If you miss alliance ops regularly but stay logged in, inevitably you'll be used as a scapegoat when the FC suicides a fleet; if you bring the "wrong" ship to a fleet, odds are you'll be *****ed at as well. Which gets annoying when the alliance calls an all-hands fleet op to rep up a blue moon mining POS.

If you're an independent sort of guy, stick with Hi-sec. You sound to have got it sorted.

Null sec is for cling-ons who just help a very small minority of willy-waving players to strut their stuff.

Well..

In general, nullsec is usually an isk sink. But it's also fun. If you get in with a big enough alliance then there is safety in numbers, just don't go on game break because when you come back everyone may have moved and now your stuff is stuck.

To be honest by the way, if you're complaining about tax you already don't have a team player mindset required for nullsec. If I were a null ceo I wouldn't take you if I heard that.. already complaining.. thanks but no thanks.

Best advice is just try it out. You can always quit the corp. Keep your good stuff in empire until you get a feel for things in null. Always keep a money making setup in empire, jumpclone back when you want. Most null sec corps are fine with that.

So give it a try.. if you've been in the game for a while you must try nullsec, I don't understand how so many players can stay in just empire so long? Shocked

it all comes down to which alliance you join. There's a very wide spectrum of quality and tone, to put it mildly.

When it comes to big fleet fights, yeah you're expected to work in close co-ordination with the whole fleet. If you want to call this "fighting like a robot" I guess you can. It's noticeable that people who say this tend to be in alliances which are really bad at fleet fights though. Draw your own conclusions.

I'm a nul-sec CEO, and I can tell you that nul-sec is about a group of players forging their own destiny, creating their own space, with their own rules; the ISK rewards is often a secondary consideration. While there are more simularities to hi-sec then you might initialy assume, this fundimental difference is what makes it a completly different animal.

Simply put, nul-sec is not for everyone. It takes a particular calibure of player that first and foremost must want to get involved. Nothing happens in nul-sec without the support of your corp and alliance.

I have to agree with Trixie. Whining about the tax rate before you even get out of low-sec is an instant red flag; what are you going to do when I tell you that we have a short-fall in our sov bills for this month and we need to do a 100% tax rate ISK drive for 24 hours. You going to be there, or are you going to be accidently log off?

My advise to you, there is plenty of NPC nul-sec space. Find a corner and put up a POS, see how long you last and if you enjoy it. And leave the Nightmare in empire.

What you make in a day running missions and ratting in High Sec, you make in an hour or two in Null Sec. That leaves lots of time to have fun pew-ing and loose ships. Very Happy

If you have the stomach for missions, there is no brainless activity in eve you can not excell at.

If you're going to 0.0 for "better" missions, please put 100% of your wallet in it and run missions. You'll get what you need :-)
