EVE i supposed to be set some 10 or so millennium after current human history. While I understand the branching out of people , What I do not understand is the lack of Racial diversity in any of the other races besides the Minmatar. All things considered do you think that at least "some" interaction between other races of color took place? I mean I don't see it as a racism issue, since the artists can create their universe as they please. But as a consumer, as a person who plays the game the inequity of representation is a bit alarming. Why is the ONLY Black Featured bloodline the lowest in intellect and a member of the only races to be enslaved, and why is the only clearly Asian Representative race made to seem paranoid and almost xenophobic?

When Incarna was released I was hopeful that I would get to make my Gallente Male look more Black in his racial origins. Or that my Caldari male looks more Asian, or a combination thereof. This maybe "JUST A GAME" but as such it seems to suffer from a Whitewashing of probabilities, ignoring the centuries of interaction between the powers of New Eden, and allowing for "Crossed" Bloodlines. The idea of Purity of bloodlines is almost archaic, if not frighteningly reminiscent of other events that put that idea out.

When you rely on the money of others, you need to cater to their desires, within reason. And I wonder just how hard would it have been to add a wider range of skin tones. Now before the argument of why does it matter come up, I'll answer you. It matter because it is limiting the RP and representation of the player base. Not everyone who plays EVE is JUST White, or JUST Black, or JUST Asian, Through out 10 millennium on our world alone the racial diversity is evident, thanks to War and Migration. Trade and Invasion.

Come on CCP look at the world beyond Iceland people are all sizes and shapes, I would love to see a slightly overweight Dark skinned Caldari capsuleer.

When you rely on the creativity of others for your enjoyment, you have to suffer living in their world. Eve was coded by a bunch of white boys from Iceland, so, you are literally stuck living in a white mans world.

If you don't like it, feel free to create your own game.

Or, make a giant long winded post about how thier game isn't "black enough" for you.

Wan't there talk about adding more racial unique stuff to the NeX store, so you can be more of an individual when you pay with Aurum for it?

each of the 4 playable races has an asian bloodline and all can be made to look clearly "asian" if that is what you want to do.

Vherokior is just the only bloodline where it is really hard to not look asian (which is relatively easy with Jin-Mei for example) but I have seen many Khanid, Jin-Mei and Achura that have clearly recognizable asian features.

Please, please, what eve doesn't need is a new "baffle em with bullshart" idea for CCP.
How about we try to convince CCP to fix the present game and not give them any ideas for another failed "expansion" that adds nothing useful to gameplay.

It is clear that the game is heavily skewed toward caucasian and asian phenotypes. Every Empire has at least one caucasian and one asian bloodline. Three of the empires even have 2 caucasian bloodlines. That being said, although Ki-Nunni are meant to look caucasian, you can make them look arabic or possibly even mulatto. And, of course, Brutor are clearly black. So in the end, you do have the three predominate phenotypes represented: caucasian, asian, and black. And it may be possible to get more through skillful manipulation of supposedly caucasian and asian bloodlines.

Edit: So I don't really see a glaring problem. The biggest gaps are the lack of (asian) Indian, Latino, and a proper Arabic bloodline. Native American and Polynesian/Pacific Islander would also be nice.

Quoting vulcan sayings makes you look like a child when you use it to try and justify what could potentially be a serious legal issue, and it makes you look like an idiot when I point out that there has never been an asian vulcan.

If the racial options available in game are not wide enough, then its coincidence. CCP is not a racist organisation.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. CCP didn't consider some people might go "oh noes, there isnt enough black". That was stupid of them, they should have seen it coming.

But I think its a positive trait. Nothing makes things boring faster then rigorous implementation of political correctness. If each race had a black bloodline, an asian bloodline and a white bloodline, then they'd all be the bloody same, wouldn't they?

Hurr durr, theres not equal amount of everything must be racist.

Make sure you have even parts coffee and hot water tomorrow morning or your coffee might feel it is being racially discriminated against.

Actually in 10 millenia there wont be white people, We will have been bred out. So really Eve shouldn't have any white skin toned characters, yet that would cause a $hit storm about racism.

Also this is a game, It's got nothing to do with the real world and how the real world works. To create true diversity in race within Eve would be a nightmare.

Well now that the mundane and knee jerk set have had their say let's get deeper into this. I suggest that you re read the initial post. I said Clearly I see no Racism here, just a lack of diversity. And while the game is made by "White Boys" as you say the argument that it's their game, if you don't like it make your own is as petulant a response as you make the initial comment out to be.

And Yes this will be "Longwinded" as one particular limited comment stated, to which I say go purchase an attention span from Jita or try some Prozac. Point is , it's not a representation of any particular ethnicity, Phenotype is a good word but can be ruled out as a relevant factor in this day and age, and especially 10k years in a space faring society. What I pondered was why not have a Intaki that has Strong Asian Features, or Polynesian, or African and the spectrum of features that make up that diversity, while still having the benefits of the society and not so much be Bloodline limited.

From the point of Biological diversity, and even Anthropological lines there should be some Genetic inclusion in All the empires of EVE. And they have done that to some extent with the different colored Eyes and Hair being across all the races. It would have been nice to lessen the "stock" look of any of the bloodlines and add some More elements of social and genetic mingling.

I am at odds with the idea that such a glaring omission was not dealt with at the initial release of Incarna, Cry fool if you want, and sling what barbs and(dung)you may. The point is there is not a realistic representation of diversity in this game, mixing Characteristics would open up Indian (Asian and the Americas), Aboriginal and others. That is the point. While I agree there are other things that need fixing and this may not be on the HOT list.

I offer you this in my all of my classes three of my students play this game and love it. But have voiced off handed remarks about the lack of diversity and individuality in ships, and the Avatars. Maybe those concerns are being addressed and will be taken care of someday, until then
expect this kind of post. You may now commence with the poop flinging and pseudo comedic jibes.

If anything the future will have less diversity. I typically only become physically involved with women of color, as the resulting offspring combine the best of both genetic lines.

In the future we will all have a buttercream tone as we share genetics material.

Diversity seems currently not wished in the game:
In the beginning we had some good steps: races/factions/standings - but CCP did cripple it.

Some peoples wishes to play "Space barbie" and we get CQ and monocles
Side effect: +80W power consume for a 3D menue

Some peoples wishes to show "I have the biggest ***": ok., we got the Carrier/Supercarrier/Titan...
Side effect: look at 0.0... and the Devblog

Some peoples wish a space shooter without ressource/time management --> CCP is thinking about it...

Why is it that IDIC always seems to imply "Let's dump all the spices into a big bowl and it will taste so yummy."?

What about the diversity of the spice-rack? What about the art of cooking? What about the next time you want to make a soup that tastes different?

If you want to build a spice-rack, then it doesn't do to imagine that the bottles are actually soup bowls.

Except they all are already the same. Every empire has 2 caucasian and 1 asian bloodline. Except that one weird empire (Minimatar) that traded a caucasian bloodline for a black one.

How do you know that in the future all racial blood lines will still be existent and in similar ratios to now?

Further, why in EVERY discussion on race does it boil down to black and white? Were is your love of the Inuit?

It sounds like you probably just finished up Sociology 101 and are eager to take your leftist professor's viewpoints for a test drive. One problem though, this is not real life it, is a space ship game and we don't want to hear your drivel...

Why not take a stroll down to Star Buck's grab a latte and complain to your real life friends about racial injustice in the real world. Self-loathing can be fun in a group setting especially when paired with espresso.

Lastly, I find your use of the term "white washing" to be insensitive and the racial overtones it invokes to be sickening. In a post civil rights era I would expect you to be able to make a cogent point without degenerating to racism. For shame!!!! I believe the term you were looking for was "Melanin Impoverished Washing" get it right!!! Rolling Eyes

Edit: Fake REPORTED for racism

Are you done foaming at the mouth? I'll wait.......Rolling Eyes, ok all done.... good.

1. How is Sociology Leftist? Do you understand the meaning and connotations of the word "Leftist" or did you hear it on some political show on MSNBC or FOX.

2. White washing is "Not" a racist term. When you Whitewash something you apply a thin coat for later applications of paint to be bolder (Primer). The second meaning is better suited for this discussion. When you apply a broad and limited selection lacking any depth it can be called Whitewashing, as it has no purpose or bias and is simply there. EVE has a great game here, and it would be nice to see the ability to make more diverse people that match one's faction attraction. I for one would love to see a East Indian looking Caldari, from the RP sense it would be great. And from the personal sense I would indeed like to see a more mixed blend of people and features. for example the Intaki used to have more features that made them look Asian (me) and I could tweak the lips a little to add some more African (me) looks to it. But at the Same Time A nod to my Dad's Genetics I can see in the Intaki so it was a good pick. So the game is not as representative of ME as it used to be. It may be small in scope, but it is a concern.

3. Lastly I never cried racism, never implied it, just asked for more diversity. If you see racism anywhere I suggest you take stock of your own judgement and righteous indignation, while trying to find the source of the hangup. Had it been a question of Racism, would my account still be active? BTW did you know that the very thing you accuse me of you are just as guilty? I am sure people who drink at Starbucks, Take Sociology and have some Left Leaning tendencies are not deserving of the scorn you seem to have. Funny how in a post Civil Rights era, people still have not learned to hold a discussion without denigrating to name calling and attack language. For shame, I believe the term you were looking for was hypocrisy. I think I got it right.

You know what they say about stones and glass houses.

Wow, some one just got rolled ShockedLaughing

I would say what CCP could do is give players access to the avatar creator first with the freedom/access to all ethnic options and then give the player the choice of their Empire and faction affiliation, even open up the NPC pirate factions as options. We used to be able to put the NPC pirate emblems in our portraits. /nods head in remembrance of his Gurista bunny ugh Now there is no such option ugh

EDIT: Forgot a few words

If these guys knew anything about the future. They'd check out Kanye West in Runaway. It's shown how even the reversal of dinner table seated by blacks is seemingly being served by their all white slave counterparts. An interesting dipiction.

Kanye West - Runaway (Reverse Roleplay) @ approx the 10min mark is where the scene takes place. I chuckle now, knowing that many of you viewers will cringe at the site. It may be surprising for you to find yourself having such a dramatic response to the clip.

And if its negative and you're of caucasian decent. I need not say much about you or your views. At the very least you'd know now.. That you are somewhat.. racist and prejudice to things you could possibly not handle if presented in real world.
