Most of the builds I see on battle clinic involving lasers have fleet multifrequency crystals in them. Wouldn't Gamma S or something else be better? Is the small increase in damage worth the range penalty and no bonus to cap use?

Every drop of damage you can squeeze out from your weapons can be the difference between winning and losing your ship... especially when your enemies are so close to you.

However... from a PVE perspective, it doesn't really matter. If you are strapped for capacitor energy though, then you want to stick with Standard crystals which offer no range penalty and -50% capacitor use.

One of the advantages of Lasers is that you can change crystals in a second.

For missions, I usually use beams and carry 3 types of crystals for each weapon, Multifrequency, Standard and Radio and then use them based on the range I'm engaging at.
