Every drop of damage you can squeeze out from your weapons can be the difference between winning and losing your ship... especially when your enemies are so close to you.
However... from a PVE perspective, it doesn't really matter. If you are strapped for capacitor energy though, then you want to stick with Standard crystals which offer no range penalty and -50% capacitor use.
