I bought level 4 implants 4 weeks ago at the time it was all I could afford. But now I've reached the 1 bill mark I'm considering upgrading my implants to 5s. But before I do I'd appreciate it if someone could tell me how much of an increase in skill training I'll get from 4 to 5? Are we talking a hour or two saved from a 7 day skill or more in the region of a day?

Thanks
Credo

+5's are about 7 hours per week better than +4's (presuming you have optimized your attributes with a neural remap).

EDIT: I should clarify that this is speculation:
AFAIK, the lower your base attributes are, the more effective implants are.

Put your skill plan into EVEMON and see what sort of a difference it will make for your chosen skills. If this is your first billion I'd rather spend some of it on shiney toys instead of implants. It will be much more fun. If you really are thinking of investing in +5's then you will want to make sure you use a clone so as to save the +4's you already have.

If you have a dedicated long term plan that you want to get done asap and u dont plan on altering it, then +5's are the way to go. The longer the training plan, the more value you get from +5's in the long run. If you are wanting to just train up a few weeks of some random stuff then dont bother. Just stick w/+4's

And yes! Get a clone. DONT waste the +4's. 110M is a lot of isk to just toss out on a whim

Adding +1 to all of your attributes gives an extra 788,400 SP per year. This is just over 3 extra rank-1 skills to level 5, or one extra rank-3 skill to level 5; and the next year, and the one after that... it ends up making quite a difference for a relatively small initial investment (provided you don't lose the pod carrying those implants).

I emphasis what someone has posted above. You should create a jump clone, jump into it and then add the +5's to that clone, thus preserving you current investment in +4s in the original clone.

In the future there will be times you will want to jump back to the +4 clone for a dangerous mission into low sec or during a wardec.

To add one comment, training the pre-requisite skills for the +5's (cybernetics V) will take you a little under two weeks, ~12days. For a gain of about ~15days training.

This means your net gain in the first 365days / year is almost nothing. In practice, you're likely to lose time in the first year, as you'll be jumping out of that clone whenever you are in a situation where you could lose a pod.

See them as a long term investment only.

Ahh I completely forgot about Cybernetics V, I'll leave it until I feel can fly my ship efficiently.

Thank you all for your replies, they are greatly appreciated.

Cybernetics V is also required for pirate Omegas.

And for most +5% hardwirings, IIRC.

Also remember that you don't need to buy a full set of +5s to get the full benefits. If you are currently mapped Perp/Will, and your next 5 months of planning include only Perp/Will, then you only need 2 +5 implants to get the most out of your +5s.

Whenever I jump to an empty clone, I take a look at what I'm training and only buy implants for the two attributes I'm using. If I add another a skill which uses one of the other attributes later I'll add in other implants at that time.
